stevemnz: @sansom Does it support the new Freeview on demand app or do you need to use the individual on demand apps?

The VodafoneTV box is not currently supporting the Freeview on demand app. We do however have the TVNZ On Demand and ThreeNow apps.

IvanPiacun:

I suggest that this Vodafone TV Gen2 Set Top Box needs the ability to show all On Demand programs in the categories of mySky On Demand, plus ability to record all Sky channels subscribed to in order to be comparable to MySky. Are there plans to provide this?

We have plans to significantly improve VodafoneTV content curation and presentation going forward, and this requires us to have full control of presentation categories and rails. Otherwise, we would be locked into someone else's content strategy. Hence our own content categories!

In regard to recordings: As you know, VodafoneTV is using Cloud PVR technology. This means that we must acquire rights from the content owners for all programmes and all channels that we allow recordings on. Our team is working hard on making sure that as many programmes and channels as possible have recording (and catch-up) rights. However, it is unlikely that we will ever have 100% recording rights on 100% of the channels.

The reason that mySKY can have recordings enabled for all programmes is that the STB is hard disk based and that there is a carve out in the NZ Copyright Act covering this use case. See section 84:

http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1994/0143/117.0/DLM346229.html

Unfortunately, this carve out does not apply to cloud PVR implementations.

Has anyone else had the problem when you turn the Gen 2 on that the light comes on but the TV screen is black and their is no sound coming out. The box light flashes with remote commands but with no response.  You have to turn it off at the wall to reboot it for it to work.  It has happened 3 times now with 2 or 3 days in middle.

Any ideas?

Weird how you say that.

I got one of these boxes for my parents and have one myself. Both of ours did this today and required physical reboots. Not sure what time.

Also got one of these boxes for my parents who are on Rural VDSL at a sync rate of 120Mbit and it works perfectly. Feels good to get them off Satellite Freeview.

I got one from the Big sell out in ASB Showgrounds for 125 and works great out of the box.

Our 2 Gen2 devices did that as well, required a physical reboot (about 4-5pm)

So great to hear - although I’ll let the team know about that reset issue. It sets the benchmark for our product, design, experience, value and service levels going forward - very proud of the team.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Always nice to get the good with the bad!

Thank you for letting us know about the issue. We have seen this reported by a small number of customers, have replicated it, and a fix is currently being worked on. It will be rolled out via OTA upgrade as soon as it is available and fully tested.

RE: Parliament tv.

Its always been too low in volume on Freeview satellite and of course Sky uses the same satellite feed via Freeview.

No problem.  Happy to be a tester if you require one for this.

Feature Request : Restart option in settings (will save me from having to go behind the cabinet to restart the device, when it goes wonky)

On the Vodafone Gen2 Set Top Box PVR is there anyway of seeing if you have already viewed a recording and also is there a way of deleting an individual recording, in a series, after you have viewed it so it no longer counts against your 500 hours of recordings please?
