Less that 7 days to go until we find out :-)

Regardless of what the offer is, i will most likely still stay with VF due to the other other discounts they offer: On Account Naked discount, Sky discount etc.

I'm just a bit peeved that those with a phone line get more data on the same plan when compared to a naked broadband account.

Doesn't the On Account Naked discount compensate for that? We don't get a discount for having our mobile with VF.

MurrayM:
Kiwi1971: Free YouTube like Snap does or free TVNZ/3 TVOD. that would free up a lot of data as I think that is what my flatmate uses up half of our data on.

What on earth do people watch on YouTube?!!?  I watch the occasional instruction video but that's only a few times per month.  Most of the stuff on YouTube seems to be people slipping over and hurting themselves, or cats fighting with themselves in mirrors...

It varies for me month to month, but I watch quite a lot of Starcraft 2 matches.

Can easily chew through 20GB a month when I watch in 720p

In our house it would be mainly using Youtube in lieu of listening to the radio

Compensate for what? Less data compared to landline broadband plans? I don't think that is the intention of the naked discount if you have an On Account mobile.

Until now both naked and clothed "Ultimate" plans have had the same amount of data, regardless of price. Same with those in the red-zone. Price might be cheaper but still same plan hence same data.

Well I have heard from a source I trust, who won't be named, that if you were waiting for more data, you will be dissapointed when the announcement is official tomorrow, and if it's a deal breaker, I imagine you might be looking for a new ISP.

Let's try and keep things civil though. I can't see moderators tolerating bashing. The people who represent VF here aren't responsible for those decisions and shouldn't be held personally accountable.

Yes I must admit to being curious. I'd like to see data sharing like 2D offer, but I can't see that happening soon. Mostly I would have been happy if another business plan for broadband was created between the 50GB and 200GB or they allowed you to double your data cost effectively.

i have mentioned this earlier in the thread. looking at the new ads for naked broadband, there is no way they will increase the data cap.

maybe it is true that there is some limitation that stop vodafone from offering more data (?bandwith)

Indeed I want to use the internet like this for all sorts of things, the available content that is being streamed is increasing greatly year on year, you only have to look at how YouTube has changed from low quality to multiple formats up to 1080i. [or 1080P, I'm not sure]

With new services and existing services offering longer and larger files and digital product-delivery people who want to take advantage of these services do need more data which is an additional cost on top of the products purchased so of course people are looking for value for money, as much data as they can get for as little as they can pay. The speed of service is largely irrelevant as it is all generally pretty good.

It is easy for low data users to ask "why do people need so much data, they must be doing something shady"  Well yes, a lot of us are but in addition to that we are also likely to be using one, some or all of the following...

TV On-Demand
Stitcher Radio - Streaming audio.
CASPA Movies on demand [TiVo]
The PS3 alone offers, TVNZ OD, MUBI Movies OD, large [multi-GB] games delivered online, I think they have a new movie service Quickflix, is that out yet?
Steam, again, very large digital downloads for purchased content.

Add to this list, a myriad of other services delivering content online.
I would like to use more streaming services like Spotify or movies on demand [Netflix and the like] but as I largely don't know how much data these services use, I am reluctant to do so as like many of us I live with the fear of "running out of internet".  So for me personally I am not interested in squeezing every GB out of my cap as much as I just don't want to have to worry about not being able to do things that I want to do and constantly monitoring usage and being frugal one day because I used too much the day before.

There is no reason of that nature. It's infeasible that a company VF's size couldn't get bandwdith if they wanted it.  I suggest the people who are unhappy should make themselves heard through the correct channels (not endlessly whining here).

i did not and never whine about this issue. there has to be some real reason for vodafone not able to compete with other competitors. afaik, we do have finite amount of international bandwith in NZ.

to be honest, i could not care less about data caps. i follow this thread because I was curious why vodafone is not able/choose not to offer the same amount of data caps as others.

I wasn't suggesting you personally were endlessly whining about it, it was more just a general thing.

It will likely never be known why VF have made this decision, and surmising isn't going to change that, but I would bet it isn't because they can't get enough bandwidth. BW isn't unlimited, but it's also not scarce and there would be enough for the requirements of VF.

I'll actually be much happier with the extra cap + something else instead of just double-extra data cap. Provided the "something else" is decent ;-)
