yes it went very well....disconnecting dozens of Users for several days over the weekend is just awesome improvement. Although I wasn't affected it seems beyond belief that simple checks and balances are still not in place for this ISP.

Yeah nah. Brand new product on brand new technology. Almost certainly scores of new processes and new learning - most of which can't be fully tested until it's used for real. If I recall correctly, DavidVF got just about every affected person connected again within 14 hours - and on a Saturday, no less.

I'd like to see any similar project get absolutely everything 100% correct from the first minute that the system goes into Production.

The downtime was silly, but Vodafone really has overhauled a huge portion of their network. I'm not upset about that at all, primarily because DavidVF was so helpful.

Also, talked with a coworker about the gigabit connections. He then rang Vodafone and is now scheduled for an upgrade within the next three days.

Vodafone actually is managing to compete with fibre at these prices. Colour me impressed.

Well guys i think voda nz is the second in the world to deploy docsis 3.1 . Its a new technology it self. There is definitely things to learn and iron out.

Most speed test issues are due to wifi and cpe not capable of handling the sheer amount of data.
So always test with a cable to lan with all devices disconnected.

I ll see if i can post some wifi config for the hg659

This is what happens when a network is actually looked after. Took a long time for it really to get any upgrades..

hey, it worked most of the time. that was sweet!

Vodafone and the team and Downer have done a massive overhaul.

Wow! You are still using one of the original WRT legend. Running the Linksys / Cisco OS, or Open WRT?
Steve

Yeah, it was the main router for a while but I think I cooked it by running the power too high for years.  Running DD-WRT I believe.  Been so long since I've done anything other than power cycle it from the power plug that I have no idea what it's even doing.  But I know it's still working as the phone switches to that when I head into the garage (separate building from the house).

@geoffwnz Did you have any luck? my R8000 seems to be topping out at 400Mbit too

Haven't tried yet.  Have been at this strange thing called work.  They seem to expect me to appear on a daily basis in order that they might feel inclined to put a couple of dollars into my bank account from time to time.  :-p

I might feel confident enough to make an attempt at it tonight.  I guess if it goes badly, the fallback is to plug the HG659 back in and use that instead.

Had my install this morning in Lower Hutt, tech was good, said they re really under the pump, been getting speeds between 600-800 most of the day, apparently I wasn't provisioned correctly so may see an improvement tomorrow. Have connected my WRT1900AC and noticed that was getting considerably lower speeds down by 300 or so Mbit down and could not go past 10 up. installed DD-WRT on it this afternoon and got a slight improvement but nothing like what I can reach on the HG659.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yeah doing some reading about the R8000, it seems like they struggle to get above 400Mbit with certain features turned on.

I was getting 400Mbit on the R8000 how i had it deployed, factory reset with no config its doing around 700Mbit  which seems about the same as what the HG is doing at the moment.

Seems like certain features on the broadcom based routers causes the hardware acceleration to turn off, which limits the throughput to 450Mbit.... now just to work out what i have on that it doesnt like

FYI @geoffwnz

Our install went fine. We are not speed freaks, so have gone for 200/20. Main benefit is the upload speed. Also noticed that the old 50/2 plan has gone up by $10 a month - Vodafone really want everyone to change! (Hope the network continues to cope.)

The 20 Mbs upload is consistent across all our devices. I can only get about 140 download from a wired desktop, but I suspect that relates to it being about ten years old. Two and a half times faster, and $10 cheaper, is good by us! My Samsung Note 10.1 2014 is getting about 110Mbs down on 5 gHz (I assume it is using ac - haven't found a list of client details on the HG659 yet!)

Better go on with some work ...

Retested the R7000 this afternoon with the wireless smart connect off - I've also switched off all my QoS settings.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge over 5G connection 2m from router getting 200/20

HP Envy 15 laptop with D-Link DWA-131 Wireless N Nano USB adaptor - 10m other end of house getting 58/21 - the DS probably being the limit of the wireless adaptor (my onbaord wifi on my laptop fried post warranty)

Might look at getting a USB wireless ac adaptor - recommendations?

So in summary - is seems essentially the only thing you need to do to get a Netgear R7000 to work with a FiberX connection is switch on Dynamic IP address allocation and enable VLAN tagging

Pretty much thats it exactly

set it to DHCP and then set VLAN 10 up and you're good to go.

It will be interesting to see how you go performance wise. From memory the R7000 is also a broadcom chipset

But don't make the mistake I did with leaving the HG659 in the chain.  :-)
