mattwnz:

I have two vodafone TVs, but noticed only one of them is listed in my account. Not sure if I used a different email address to setup the other one, but tired my other email addresses and none get the password reminder. Is there a way to deactivate it and then assign it to my account. I have tried resetting it but it doesn't need reactivating after that occurs.

Please send me a pm with the serial number and I’ll take a look

Hi all,

I'd be keen on advice for a replacement. Currently we use a VFTV box for freeview and Netflix and an Android box for Kodi and PerfectPlayer

Now, Vodafone has recommended DishTV SmartVU+ Android TV receiver with Freeview to replace the VFTV

From my understanding this will do the Freeview/Netflix over internet with no need for an aerial (which had an accident a few years back)

My main question is what else can we load onto the DishTV box? If I can load Kodi and PerfectPlayer then that's a single box solution. But if it's like the VFTV... stuffed

Googling hasn't identified anything other than that we can access the Play Store, but I know some apps won't install on some systems.

I've often been keen on getting an Nvidia shield, are there any reliable apps to watch Freeview over internet for this?

I'm wary of Dish products. A few friends and family members have had them, and they have been pretty buggy and problematic. There are also quite a few threads on GZ with the issues people have had. So I won't touch the brand with a 10 foot pole.

The Nvidia shield is great. Serveral friends have them and swear by them, and I'm contemplating getting one for myself.  I don't think you can get the Freeview app for it, at least not officially. But you can load the TNNZ and TV3 apps onto my Chromecast with Google TV box (which is also Android TV) and they work just fine. And anything the CCwGTV can do, the Shield can do better......

Just get the Shield pro, and not the cylindrical one that is lesser specced and compares badly in the reviews I have read.

Unlike a few others we have been very happy with the DishTV boxes in our motorhome. Among the many other AndroidTV boxes we have the DishTV A2, SV11 and SmartVU+. They all perform as expected and are used daily.

I have Kodi installed on all DishTV boxes.
With the MH(SlyGuy) and several other addons we can stream a multitude of legit free TV channels including Freeview.
We also store many GB of media recordings on USB thumb drives for viewing via Kodi. The SmartVU+ is one of the few Netflix certified boxes that still allows full read/write access to the USB ports permitting copying, moving and deleting files in place. Most new boxes are read only.

DishTV have not sold the A2 recorder for four months (their own web site has had it listed as "out of stock: since before Christmas. When I enquired about one directly with DishTV last November they said they were releasing before Christmas, two new Freeview recorders as a replacement for the A2 - one satellite model and one terrestrial model,  but they have never appeared.  I called them again in early February for an update but they could not offer any. Pathetic.

Nobody should buy a Panasonic Freeview On-demand recorder anymore, Panasonic never released a firmware upgrade for TVNZ when it left the Freeview group last July so that users could stream on-demand TVNZ channels.  There was no upgrade because Panasonic are progressively leaving the recorder market in NZ.

I gave up on finding a suitable recorder locally and imported a twin terrestrial Vu+ from the UK with OpenVix installed, for about the price of the A2, and that works perfectly for my wife's needs. Fantastic online user support group, regular firmware downloads available over the internet directly to the recorder. Doesn't have Freeview on-demand, but there could be a plug-in for it - haven't really looked into that yet.

It's already started ... my local Tip-Recycle Shop has a couple of Vodafone TV devices on their shelves for $5 each.  Both are Gen1.

Also spotted a box named Igloo ... didn't look much like an Inuit home to me 😁

Igloo, Sky's first attempt at IPTV solution with Cisco that never even saw the light of day and cost $38M in R&D and Voda TV are all Fellet projects ending in failure.

Great fun. Renewed my Subscription for SkySport for the Supercars this weekend...Did it this morning so there would be time for it to be processed. Get home in evening. Turn on TV to watch V8s and guess what...Channel not subscribed. Restarted VTV - no better.

Looks like Vodafone are breaking things earlier than 30Sept.

Another $50 something dollars down the drain.

Can you tell I am not happy.

That was the second thing I did...after a powercycle.

Called Vodoafone once I finally got a number to a real person that knows the VTV service. He had to do a resync between the account and their services.

Dion was great. Credit.

Now to get a decent refund on the cost of the device.

Can anyone clarify this for me because the vodafone live chat help team is terrible and sky are slow to respond. I have vodafone tv, with sky channels, which was bundled with broadband. Now getting billed by sky for tv. Does anyone know if I can cancel my vodafone broadband service without disrupting the vodafone tv service (while waiting for new streaming sky solution)?

Vodafone tv faqs suggest this is ok but not explicit and vodafone help team have made it even less clear.

If you have a Sky TV account number, yes.If you haven't, maybe check where it's all at in the process.

I knew mine was somewhere\somewhat in flux, as when I got my last Vodafone bill, it didn't have any of the Sky\TV services billed, and was roughly half what it normally was. When I got the Vodafone bill, I didn't yet have a Sky customer number, that came through a couple of days later in an email. Note here, as Sky wasn't one of my regular senders, there email was originally in my Spam folder.

Can confirm Vodafone TV still works without a Vodafone broadband connection, as my Vodafone TV box is now at the inlaws with me on a separate providers broadband.

EDIT: I have also cancelled any services remaining with Vodafone

Question re Sky Go

As we Vodafone TV (with Sky services) transition over to Sky customers, does that billing also include Sky Go ? It didn't seem to work for me today

I recall reading that a few pages back, here we go:

invisibleman18:

Got a reply that Sky Go won't work until migrated to a Sky box later in the year (so can login and see Prime, but not the Sky packages you subscribe to). Also mentioned that "more info will come later in regard to our products as there is a new online Sky Box to be released, similar to Vodafone TV."
