I cannot get fibre in my street until at least 2019 but you don't see me going crying to the government because I don't have a fibre connection. I say again if there was a return on investment the telecoes would have wired up rural areas years ago.

do you generate the majority of our GDP and exports? do you create tens of thousand of jobs? are you one on the primary generators of our standard of living?

RBI is not to provide links to play WOW but to run efficient business that need to be internationally competitive.

This is true - unless you happen to be a single person with no children and no mortgage, and can just pick up and move your whole life to wherever (I know I couldn't), it's not easy.

One of the things government does is provide services that commercial entities cannot. You may not be crying about lack of fibre, but you sure are crying about contributing to the greater good through your taxes. Farms and small rural businesses help create prosperity for everyone. Adequate communications infrastructure is essential for that in the modern world. Rural communities need good communications just as much as everyone else.

Where I live I cannot get a 3G or 4G connection with spark, vfone, or 2 degrees but that doesn't mean I go crying to the government just because I cannot get cellphone coverage. In the real world I know that is not economically viable for a cellsite to be erected in my neighbourhood so I can get coverage.

There has been a huge downturn in the dairy industry for quite a while, why bother when you are getting less on the global market.
