prasnz: Hi folks,
Add me to the list of FibreX users in Island Bay with connection issues.
Had it installed on Feb 7 and it feels like I have had a dropout nearly every night between 10.30p and 1.00pm.
I spoke to a technician during the Day on Tuesday and he mentioned they are swapping out some hardware in the node. He also said he remotely tweaked some settings in my modem and router but no luck it sems.
Given the length of time these issus have been goin on for I am tempted to go back to the old cable connection until they are resolved.
Has anybody had a more stable experience with other ISPs which I could consider?
If you are in Island Bay, you won't get "real" fibre until late 2019.
There are no other cable providers.
Your only alternative is VDSL2 from a provider other than VF - eg Spark or BigPipe.
I don't know if it's possible to go back to the older (DOCSIS 3.0) HFC plans. (I have considered that option myself.)

I don't know what is going on but this is shockingly bad. @Disrespective you may want to reboot your modem / router. This is an Island Bay connection.

Yeah, i'd been keeping an eye on it and planned to restart sooner, it just slipped my mind.
Restarted now and it's a little less wonky, but to my untrained eye the graphs don't look like the service is performing all that well for me.
Hi all,
I got FibreX installed pretty much straight away, and have encountered the usual errors you've all described. Frequent drop outs, service failures lasting many hours, and all sorts of other problems. I now have a static IP which has made the ubiquiti edgerouter I use much more happy.
Since I use my own router, I've enabled access to the web interface of the technicolour box. 192.168.100.1 admin/password. On the status page of this it shows all the parameters of the device, including correctable and uncorrectable codeword errors. Since I had a tech come around this morning (for the third time) I've had 1.4M correctable errors and 2.4M uncorrectable errors. I wonder whether the result of computing the parity on all of these incorrect codewords is causing the technicolour device to throw it's toys out of the cot.
Unfortunately there is apparently no way to run SNMP polling against the CPU of this device (I've tried) so I don't know how to further test this theory.
Cheers
See above.

Another outage 6:00 pm to 6:35pm.
Not fixed by a cold reboot.
My VF source tells me that nodes WKH3 and WKH4 were both down.

The guy I was speaking to got notification of the outage about halfway through insisting that I unplug things from the wall. He was at pains to point out the modem was the "black one". I got a bit shirty to be honest. It clearly wasn't my first time at the rodeo and I just wanted to do the bare minimum to (a) have the problem added to the queue; and (b) get my fortnightly allotment of always connected data
mdf: Mine is still down.
I know that I'm on WKH3.
Maybe you are on WKH4.
Out today, and worth reading:
TrueNet January 2017 Urban Broadband Report
"Vodafone Fibre, Cable and VDSL results show a broad roll-off in performance during waking hours for live webpage download speeds from NZ. This indicates potential congestion from NZ and Australia because average webpage speeds drop during the middle of the day with the most severe drop during the evening busy hours of 8-9pm. Conversely, Vodafone is consistently best at downloading US websites."

Whoops. User error. Forgot to plug the ethernet cable back in after the ninja made me take it out . How embarrassing.
I did hear him mention WKH4 thought so that may well be it.

prasnz: Anyone else in Island Bay get an outage tonight circa 11pm?
