Hi Peter.

I look forward to seeing you on TV IF YOU ARE SERIOUS. And I will have a good laugh at you as I lie in bed and watch the morning news. Go for it - I dare you. Put your money where your mouth is because VF would expect you NOT to.

And if you pull it off and VF change their pricing model I will be the first one to buy you a drink and apologise. Hell, I will even pay you to fly down here to Wellington 1st class to buy you that drink!

Go on - I dare you. Put your money where your mouth is. Vodafone have!

So... much... anger...

I find it a good exercise on going there and letting them know that you COULD buy the phone, but just WON'T because they are completely off the mark. Better to complain in person than to a CSR on the phone. Usually more effective, too.

.. Again, I agree.

Magu, will you be attending the Auckland store to do this? (sorry if you have said yes or no previously, its kinda hard to keep up with what everyones been saying :P)

Yes, I'm planning to be there. Since I usually finish gaming around 11:30pm, I'll probably be there just in time for the opening.

I think you missed the sarcasm in my reply (and my earlier comment).

A demonstration because they think the acquisition costs of a phone are too high????? Gimme a break for Christ's sake. There are more important things to demonstrate against at the end of the day - certainly more important than a toy. Hell, if we carry on down this path, we might as well all go and demonstrate against the fact that we cannot get our own way all the time!

Hear hear!  Maybe I should send my 4 year old son along to this protest?  He has exceptional skills at discussing the finer points of any decision that doesn't involve him getting his own way :D

I'm considering buying a 16GB White one, then smashing it on the pavement outside the shop just to vent my frustration.

Ah, the wonders of youth!

It would be "priceless" to see dumbfounded staff at the store at 00:01 trying to argue with a 4 year old on why the plans are so badly priced!

Sorry if I missed your /sarcasm. I totally see your point, except that I'm only revolted with the pricing of the plans available, not the phone itself. I think VF missed the point with their subisidies and pricing options. Even if they own the market, a little respect towards its customers goes a long way. This pricing, I'm afraid, is just disrespectful.

I DO think the phone-only prices are acceptable (even if it hurts a little).

Don't you think we could protest over more important things.....price of cheese, oil, decriminalising marijuana etc.....come on, I'm as disappointed as anyone else but really, is this that important in the grand scheme of things?

Yes, you can buy the phone outright, but it's going to cost you. Apparently, pre-pay SIMs won't work with it, so you'll have to wait until an unlock is available, if there is going to be one. Since the phone is not fully locked, just sub-IMSI locked, most likely you'll won't be able to unlock it, even with hacks.

If you are unsure, just go to the Vodafone store and ask them.

The price plans are not too far removed from what we are paying now (for what in some cases are better phones). I agree that there is a premium built into the plans because it is an iPhone, lets call it a marketing premium? I think the real issue comes from the marketing hype - almost everybody was starting to think that the iPhone pricing would change the VF business model. Why would it? VF do not need the iPhone and the iPhone does not need VF! It is an agreed business partnership with terms and conditions acceptable to BOTH parties.

$199 entry point? It was obvious what would happen from that point on. Respect towards customers and pricing are two very different issues altogether. VF have just reinforced that!
