peteremcc: I think we should all turn up to the launches and queue as originally planned, but when they open the doors we just carry on standing there, as if we're there for something else. Then go home after about 10 minutes! :)

Unfortunately I don't live in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch, but this would be a brilliant publicity stunt to protest the iPhone pricing, no?

Organise a GZ meeting of people who happen to be Geekzone members at a Vodafone store, tip a member of the press, and get a front page story about a huge group of people queueing outside Vodafone just to NOT buy an iPhone?

Are there enough GZ'ers feeling strongly enough about it? Laughing

You can organise anything - but I am sorry you can't call it a Geekzone event.

Edited. Was not really intended to be any Geekzone sanctioned event, but it would be pretty much GZ'ers turning up. Anyway.

Most people will buy it on prepay which they can afford so the waiting lines will still be there...says on vodafone's site clearly that you can buy it without being on a plan...."To purchase an iPhone 3G with no plan you'll need to visit a Vodafone retail store."

Do whatever you want to do man.

s.joseph is correct. Vodafone have said that a VFNZ Prepaid SIM will NOT work with the unlocked iPhone sold by them. They can only be used with On Account SIMs.

I know but when you read the wording on the website and it does not mention anywhere that prepay customers are not allowed to buy it and you see this "To purchase an iPhone 3G with no plan you'll need to visit a Vodafone retail store." it pretty much sums it up. The You choose plan + corporate plans option is at the link below the "iphone only" link....if it was only for the other on account customers then they would have incorporated it into one link....I guess 11th July will tell whether prepay customers can buy it or not!

ps - can you please provide the link where VFNZ have said that prepay sim will not work....

edit - found it! Not avaiable Link

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Because i have work, but I could take friday off..

Im happy to join this 'mob' as I think this whole Vodafone deal is a load of bullsh*t.

vodafone cant stop you using a prepay sim if you get an iphone. There'll be some kind of global unlock right?

Not legal ones no. and if there is, it most definitely won't be right away.

Probably your best chance of every having an iphone on prepay is buying one from overseas or having the new firmware jailbroken. Which might take time.
So long story short, theres no way you're gonna do it without some kind of cost involved.
Nice and expensive jus the way Voda' likes it.

Jesus you guys are pathetic. You think anyone is going to take you seriously? “OMG Vodafone has priced me out of getting the phone I want even though I REALLY REALLY want it!”. I cant have the house, or car or clothes I really want either, but I don’t march down Queen street over that. Your pathetic, childish protest cheapens the principle of protesting all together.

Sounds like you have both the motivation, and the geographical location.

Would you like to organise this with peteremcc?

I see that you have notified the media already - hopefully you have some inside associate or something so that the story actually gets run :)

Will need a decent turnout though. No good if the numbers protesting are outweighed by those actually buying Cool

It's anyone's guess at this stage since the Firmware is being changed as well and NZ being the first country to get it....would have to wait for US and China to get their hands on the 3G model and see if they can bring out some sort of hack for it....

Based on what was said, either Campbell Live or the main TV3 News will be there on the launch night.

Petermcc? I will contact him via PM first maybe.

And you Sir, sound like you are taking this far too seriously. It's all just a bit of fun Tongue out

If Vodafone are allowed to manipulate the media through their PR resources, call this a bit of PR reversal Innocent
