Sky Go worked for us over the weekend, had to create a new account tied to my new Sky account number though, I couldn't figure out how to tie the new account number to a previous account ( and didn't want to try and ring Sky and ask).

Just checked and it now allows me to watch subscribed channels too. Had initially been told by Sky that we wouldn't be able to use Sky Go while still using VTV.

@IceFragmatic I have edited your posts. You seen to constantly misspell Vodafone, which is against the FUG.

This morning I'm no longer able to watch any subscribed channels on SkyGo. Must have been an error over the weekend, but clearly it's possible to enable it if it worked yesterday so don't see why we can't use it.

So if Vodafone doesn't offer a firmware update, is there a set top box that does the same thing?  I'm struggling to find a set top box that offers the same features.  (Ethernet connection, streaming apps, Freeview and recording capabilities.)  We do not have a UHF antenna or a reliable indoor UHF aerial.

I am waiting (hoping) for the announced (promised) Sky set top box to replace my VTV box when Vodafone pull the pin in September,. If it does not materialize then it is goodbye to Sky channels.

Does the SKY set top box require a dish still or does it have a ethernet connection?   I don't subscribe to any SKY channels so they might not offer me a SKY box anyway.

I had understood it will NOT require an aerial ( I don't want an aerial) but having read this I am not so sure now as it talks about hybrid. https://www.sky.co.nz/-/sky-selects-international-partners-to-develop-new-sky-box-components

However reading Vodafone info it looks like just a internet connection is all that is needed (Chorus or Vodafone) https://www.vodafone.co.nz/tv/

The new Sky box will work with satellite or internet.

My reading of the Sky post is that the box will stream real-time content over the Internet (using Google TV) and will have separate hardware to enable recording of content if you have a satellite dish connected.

As for alternative devices, @krispienz I have been looking for an alternative for my whānau. No luck. There are numerous options that do much of what we are used to, but nothing that provides the same combination of features in one box. I've no desire either pay a monthly subscription, or resurrect a satellite dish, so Sky box won't work.
I have been experimenting with some options. If you want to maintain a server (Linux or Windows) then it looks like a promising option could be https://nextpvr.com/ with either their clients or https://kodi.tv/ as a client device.

Are you in a UHF location though? A freeview recorder is possibly the only option for a free service if you are wanting to record. Not that the vodafone TV allowed you to record all programs though, it wouldn't allow recording of certain ones.

My parents have recently had their VTV replaced with a new one as their old one failed. They  activated it as a new one and they deactivated their old one online and sent it back to the retailer. Does this affect the refund as the new activation date is now 2022.

I don’t use the Apps so don’t know if they still work, but I’ve noticed an increasing number of programs won’t record on the vtv box - it gives a message saying recording isn’t allowed due to licensing restrictions. If Apps aren’t working as well, I wonder if Vodafone are starting to cut some of the services early to save costs?
