I seem to have a static IP. Done two power cycles of modem since I got it this morning and have kept the same ip. I had mentioned it to Vodafone on 3 different phone calls and asked them to specifically add a note on the order. The Tech said it was on there this morning. So it seems constant confirmation seems like it may have worked for me.

Not moved to any FibreX plan but here in Woolston, Christchurch our Vodafone TV modem has.. some parts of the day it will be fine. Other times it's losing connection and trying to restablish every couple of minutes.

Tech came and tested the signal, it was fine, so he replaced the modem and it seemed fine while he was there but then it pretty much does the same thing

It only affects the TV modem and not the Cisco Internet one

@ZollyMonsta any thoughtz?

+1 I have a static IP (reserved DHCP allocation). Specifically asked about it each time I talked to Vodafone. They usually had to go looking to confirm. The tech plugging stuff in still didn't know anything about it, but let me speak to the guy at the other end of the phone provisioning the connection. He sorted it out.

AFAIK SIP is locked down in both the Spark and the Vodafone firmwares, Not the Bigpipe one though.

Our FibreX HG659 has some provision for adding a VoIP provider.

Use outbound:

... then add a number using that provider ...

I tried to configure this for our WorldxChange account, and it didn't register. I didn't try hard - had lost confidence in the HG659 by then. Will still with my separate ATA.

After moving things around this morning and having things off for at least 10 minutes unlike a minute off yesterday I have discovered I am not on a static IP.

I have a static IP that's not static. Found this out after I rebooted everything because speeds dropped 50%. The reboot fixed the speed issue but my IP changed..

Level 2 is looking into it :)

Same here, I was going to call up to cancel the static IP as I didn't want to pay the extra $5 a month for it, restarted the modem this afternoon and new IP. They hadn't added the static IP to my account when I signed up so no charges should be made hopefully.

Does anyone know if the TP-LINK WDR4300 N750 will work either on factory or DD-WRT firmware? Either that or is a pfsense box confirmed as working?

Anything that supports vlan tagging and will allow you to set vlan 10 will work. The WiFi is horrible but it's routing performance is good.

Another half hour on the phone with Vodafone people. Neither technical support CSR, nor billing CSR he referred me to, knew about the three day install promise. Tech support CSR sent a message to Provisioning to set up the static IP. Billing CSR says she has processed a $100 credit to our account.
Time will tell! :-)

This really isn't sounding promising around the static IP thing. Hopefully I make head home on monday when the tech turns up to the do the installation so I can get him to validate with the provisioning team about the static for my install as well as my parents one.

I ended up deciding that while I would like a bigger router, I only really need a Mikrotik 750gr3 . Excellent little router. The suppliers claim it will handle a 1 gig connection OK, but I only have 200/20, so no worries there.
There was a little gotchya setting it up to run on FibreX, so if you have any Mikrotik device (they all use the same OS), PM me, and I'll send you details.

So I've got my instal happening next Friday. Intend to use my r8000 with stocks firmware,

Should I ask to retain my static ip? What are the benefits? I game a lot and I run a plex server, but otherwise pretty standard use.

But what about real-world performance?

Has the speed upgrade made any real difference (good or bad) to your Internet experience, actual download speeds etc?

TBH, real world improvements for me are very little if anything. Sure I can get some useful speedtest numbers to NZ servers, but uploading to YouTube is little to no better. And the WRC streaming video was still pausing regularly during playback. And that's a pre-recorded video stream, not the live stream.

So unless there's something I can set at my end to improve things, then, no noticeable difference.
