dont worry about Snap. they have huge bandwith especially after working hours

Except for the 6+ Months of Youtube buffering issues they have not made a serious effort to solve!

when I join vodafone, I did not realize that the speed will be slowed down after the cap. i am so used to paying extra after reaching the cap when I was on TCL cable and maxnet.

So you are saying you didn't read the plan details correctly and this somehow VF's fault?

what is wrong with you? where exactly did I say VF is at fault??? why do you even reply in this thread.

I apologize if I misread what you wrote, but to me it looked like you were not happy with VF because your speed drops when you reach your cap, something clearly outlined in the plan.

It was certainly not a threat, and if it came across that way I apologize. It felt to me you were implying bias and when I am only here to provide a little balance to some of the extreme comments made by others here it felt a little unfair.

From the email above I am not sure how that supports your statement that VF has said Data per $ is the most important thing.

are you with snap? or vodafone?

I am with VF for my business Internet, and Unleash at home, but for some reason my youtube comes from Snap's cache servers, and I still have many instances even as recently as a week ago, ~6 months after the first people started discussing the issue here and in other forums, where my youtube videos buffer at dialup speeds, despite having a 70Mbit VDSL connection.

I disagree that Vodafone has been going down the data/$ is the only thing that matters track. In fact I think they have been consistent across their mobile and fixed line products in trying to get away from this model. They have been looking to bundle services and provide points of difference rather than just bigger data caps and more minutes.

Their key points of difference have been the NZ Best Mate offering, the naked discount with a mobile plan and the sky bundle. I think for 90%-95% of users these are of more use than more data as most users don't get close to maxing out their data blocks.

I think it's a really strong strategy to grow market share as it provides things that "average" families want, like the ability to call all the mobiles in the family for free or call Nana out of town for nix.

My problem is that I am one of the users who use all their data and I'm a naked BB customer who doesn't use sky. If you are a naked BB customer then I believe you're going to be more data cap focused. My wife's a stay at home mum whos' Netflix/Hulu+ habit ain't getting satisfied by 120GB/month.

I have Ultimate + SkyHDi, I pay for quickflix/Netflix and watch only free hulu and BBC iplayer, also other means of getting shows. I have 2 kids who have discovered the internet for games and VOD and I would count us as a normal family, I work in an environment of about 80 people aged between 21 - 50 and almost everyone is the same as me. alot are on VF due to my recommendation for being value for money. Now though they are behind the curve, they are supposed to be the competition to Telecom not the other way around.

I have been with iHug/Vodafone almost since I arrived in NZ 10 years ago This last 2 weeks is the first time I have felt under valued as a customer.

I aim to misbehave.

Your logic doesn't track quite right..

You recommended it as value for money, they are still getting the same value for money, except now they get more than they were getting, for no more cost, so it's improved.

If SOME of the other providers hadn't increased their data caps, you would still be recommending VF, but because they aren't matching Telecom and Snap, you are going to stop recommending them?

Anyway I can't see anyone changing your mind, and VF won't be changing their offering any time soon, so I guess you need to make your own decisions.

Your seem to argue my case for me, yes up to May this year VF was very much value for money. Then the competition moved (120GB+ with no additional cost) so VF became no longer value for money, John R was on here telling us all that we should wait and see VF's offerings and we did, they are still not value for money in my mind. how does that not "track quite right"?

I wouldn't class your usage as typical - Netflix/Quickflix/hulu/iPlayer is not typical usage in NZ. I would suggest mentioning that type of usage to most people gets a blank stare. Youtube/VOD obviously is another story.

Aside from that if you compare the offerings from Vodafone to the Telecom total home phone offerings I think it's pretty clear that the Vodafone offerings have similar or better value.

e.g. Total Home Starter $75 for 3GB vs Ideal Pack: $75 for 40GB & Sky discount

Total Home Lite (which Telecom says is their most popular offering) $85 for 30GB and 1 favourite Telecom only number vs Choice Pack: $85/$95 40GB, 5 Best Mates on any network and Sky Discount

Total Home: $105 for 40GB, unlimited national calling and capped calling to Telecom mobiles vs Mega Pack: $95/$105 for 80GB, 5 Best Mates and Sky Discount.

The problem is Telecom has an offering at $105/120GB or $125/160GB where Vodafone has no offering. When you compare apples with apples Vodafone are good value, it's just Telecom is also selling oranges.

The tier 2 ISPs I wouldn't compare to be honest, I came back from Orcon to Vodafone and got much better speeds and more consistent service. I just wish they'd sought out the top end of their offering.

Your mileage may vary but I'd never go back to them. We went from slingshot to Vodafone at my last house and got a consistent 3-4Mb increase of speed in the evening. They were reselling Vodafone at that stage so it was purely backhaul.

I've heard varying reports since as above YMMV.
