what is that suppose to mean? is slingshot lacking?

Your mileage may vary but I'd never go back to them. We went from slingshot to Vodafone at my last house and got a consistent 3-4Mb increase of speed in the evening. They were reselling Vodafone at that stage so it was purely backhaul.

I've heard varying reports since as above YMMV.

Someone must have better quality house wiring, Speed is not just related to your line speed far from it

Someone must have better quality house wiring, Speed is not just related to your line speed far from it

well that's why i ask lots of questions cos i really don't know how it all works.
all i have to go on really is what ppl say and that included the advice of checking speed test results.

my house/wiring must be ok with the speeds i am currently getting and i don't know where the exchange is in whangarei but i am really close to town/cbd.

there is no point in having first class infrastructure if you cant use it because the data needs of the user far exceed the limit.

(thanks for posting this, it will give me some more things to think about -i am really no closer in deciding what my next move will be as i am sure all of the providers have their drawbacks whether it be price, data or service).

good service/reliable service & speed are the 'most' important i have decided.
(obviously with enough data to suit my needs)

what i am looking for (ideally) -in no order:

large or unlimited data (150/250GB +)
^ at the cheapest price on market
free wireless modem -am ok to sign up for contract (prefer 1 yr will 'think' about 2)
good speeds
reliable service
prompt and good customer service (not long wait times on phone)
naked -phone not needed.

bonus/appealing would be nice sign up deals, 1st 2 months free, sky (not sports), tivo.
anything else (best mates, calling deals etc) are of no interest.

i am feeling a bit pressed for time as i will cancel with vodafone on the 30th yet some providers can take 2-3 weeks to get you connected, i don't want to have to pay another months worth of service.

You're not going to get everything you want. Pick the two or three that are most important. From what you've said I'd guess Snap, Orcon, Fyx or Slingshot would fit the "numbers" part of what you want. I have no experience of Snap or Fyx, in my experience Vodafone are better than Orcon or Slingshot.

As someone else has said there are 3 components, good performance, good service and good pricing. GENERALLY you can only have 2.

This thread is a reasonable place to start, then have a good read of the specific forum of whoever you choose to see what their customers complain about (generally you'll only hear the complaints, there aren't too many ISP XYZ is awesome topics). If you can live with these types of issues then choose them(eg there are lots of comments complaining about Vodafones data caps, not their speed/reliabilty). If you don't spend the time then it really is your problem.

I don't know, either go and start a topic in their forum section and ask for some feedback or do some reading in their forums. This is exactly what I mean about doing your homework, there is lots of information available, do a search or start a topic.
