"You need to give 30 days notice"
is there some 'technical' reason for that? or is it just a way for them to grab more money?

There is a technical reason - it's the contract you agreed to. If you don't bother to do your homework then it's no one elses problem but your own. A number of ISPs have the same T&Cs.
princesscami:
you know that is not the kind of 'technical' i mean!. & stop implying i don't do my home work i am here on this forum arn't I? (as well as 4-6 other forums and threads this evening) there are a lot better things i could be doing, i am trying to educate myself! by listening to ppl who know the ins and outs of things. don't talk to me if you just want to be rude!!!.
(reading the terms & conditions of a contract i would liken to reading a dictionary or encyclopaedia for "fun"
i ask the basic questions i need to know when signing up for something and if i don't know something or i forget something (of T & c) well i am only human)!.

Digmarx: I switched away from VF recently and the phone rep told me that if the service is switched over before 1st I wouldn't have to pay for July.
princesscami:Handle9:princesscam: i can't even post at the vf forums, so frustrating, this is it for me.
unlimited naked at slingshot for $90
Good luck, I think you'll need it...
what is that suppose to mean? is slingshot lacking?

That is correct.
You pay one month in advanced at the start of the month so if you leave during the month, you don't get credited for the remainder.
The 30 day period is the max period.
I aim to misbehave.
Sifty: Hi, have been following this thread for a bit and thought I'ld share my recent experience. Am with Vodafone (Ultimate standard) and had a Telecom representative come to the door today and offer 80Gb + unlimited national calls + free modem for $95 per month on 12 month contract. Called Vodafone up and told them what happened, and Vodafone offered free double data (Takes me up to 160Gb a month) + unlimited national calls + free modem for $95 per month on 12 month contract. Was told by the Vodafone rep that the market is very competitive at the moment, and they are willing to work out individual plans if called. Quite happily staying with Vodafone now.
