Somehow I think your planned time-waster approach protest is not going to work well. You will be viewed just as some nosey spectators.

First off, there will likely be a single-filed queue of people (some waiting hours, maybe days) outside of the shop. You will need to get into the queue early and grouped together.
When the doors open at 00:01, the people managing the door will let in X number from the beginning of the queue to have them hand over their money, activate their accounts (and get RFID implants)
as each person leaves they will let in another person.

Why not try a traditional approach and make signs displaying the Total cost per plans people will actually pay .
It will snap out of some delusional people wanting to buy the first IP3G, especially when quite a few of them probably can't afford it (and have no idea how to add) and the media will cover the bad press.

For billions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your Mum and Dads side, successfully looked after and passed onto you life. What are the chances of that like?

Yeah, I get what you mean, and to be honest, I do agree with you.
My intentions of going to the launch to do this was only if the turn out was going to be justifable. Which by the look of things, isn't.

I mean, with seriousness, comes a bit of play time too. I would love to take a look at this Jesus Phone to see the differences. I mean, this plan would obviously conflict with that but thats why there are petitions :)

And just to be clear (not directed towards, sudo);

I am used to paying around 1k for a phone, I have done so many times before.
but the plans are what im more raged about than anything, im not really upset about the iphone.

Yes the handset price is actually not bad (around 15% more than you would pay in the U.S.)
The accumulated cost (aka TCO) is what stings.

The below is sourced from a forum over the deetch. Unfortunately it's not weighted with proper "apples" compariing the voice/text data rates, but it's good for a glance.

Iphone 3G is a great phone. It's vodafones pricing in nz which is hurting me. Guys we have waited long for the phone to come in. Why not wait couple of months more before buying it. Let vodafone hold that stock longer. The Prices will come down as some new phone will be released soon and Aplle iphone 3g will not be hot then. Even Parallel import phone will be here sometime soon. Atleast i have the patience to wait. Do you?

I sort of do. But I hate using the crappy phone i have now. lol.

Im in the same boat as you. I can have my iphone for as low as $40 a month with no data. (I'll just use wifi at home, as its not IMPORTANT to me)

Or $70 with 200mb data.

I mean, even thats still cheaper than the cheapest iphone plan, haha.

But If I do buy, im going to Tosh with my money. Vodafone can shove it.
As for iphone plans? No way. I will do it my way. Keep my existing one and pay up front. Save me money ranging from 1000-5000.

Sadly there will always be the people that have to have the new thing. be it xbox 360, ps3, new phone whatever. They are happy to pay through the nose for it when it comes out instead of waiting for the prices to come down (eg how much is an xbox360 now compared to when it first hit the market?). There was one of em on 3 news grizzling about the plan price but still said he would have to get one

The really sad thing is, some of these people get into it saying "ooh $199 for a new phone" without really weighing up the $250 month plans or looking at the big picture. It turns out they can't afford the plan like they thought they could, default on the other commitments etc such car payments and other HPs then before you know it another finance company can't pay it's investors.

It's the marketing trickery behind it that I object to. Make the sexy new thing "seem" nice and cheap to attract the lowest denominator. Vodafone still comes out roses as the phone and plans end up on online auctions and the next sap picks up the bill.

I see that you have notified the media already - hopefully you have some inside associate or something so that the story actually gets run :)

Will need a decent turnout though. No good if the numbers protesting are outweighed by those actually buying

Do you enjoy being ripped off?

It is well known that NZ has near the most expensive mobile call/data charges in the OECD, and are hence being examined by the Commerce Commission.

However it doesn’t excuse Vodafone and using their duopoly to yet again charge excessive prices.

Is the pricing really that bad? You can go on a normal plan and pay full price for the handset if you want, just like with any other phone.

The basic $80 Iphone plan they give you quite a bit for your $, 250megs, 120 min any time mins, 600 texts. Would cost you a small fortune to get the same amount on prepay.

All you poor asses on prepay need to get a job & start living in the real world where companies make money.

i disagree that the pricing is reasonable. $80 is a lot of buying power in new zealand and the rates we get charged, compared to overseas such as UK and even asian countries are just absurd. Theres heaps of places to compare what we are paying for against what we have receive. 80 per month on 250mb and 120 mins are just plain insulting.

Why don't you go live there then? I disagree with the buying power comment, it's all quite relative.. there are certain things we get cheap here in NZ eg. rent, food etc. so we have more disposable income to blow on silly gadgets :)
