VodafoneTV software update 57.11:

Just to let let the Geekzone community know that we pushed the 57.11 software release to all Gen2 VodafoneTV boxes last night.

Brief release notes:

  • HDMI interoperability improvements
  • WIFI stability improvements
  • Resolves VodafoneTV not coming out of standby
  • Resolves VodafoneTV TV Guide missing for future content
  • General performance and stability improvements

The VodafoneTV boxes update themselves automatically in the early morning hours. If your VodafoneTV has not updated, you can force an update by going to Settings > More Settings > Updates.

Are any of the updates and fixes being backported to the Gen1 devices?

The same release, 57.11, will also be deployed to all Gen1 boxes. QA its currently underway, and we will let you know when we start deploying.

After 40 minutes the VTV Set Top Box with update 57.11 times out of pause on a live channel and Pause, Rewind, Fast Forward, Rewind 20 Seconds, and Fast Forward 20 Seconds no longer work until channels are changed. The time out is all to the good to save burn in on some screens, but I believe it is a bug that these keys stop working on the remote. Changing away to another channel and changing back reenables the keys but if the program being played has finished and it has no 3 day play option, then you could lose the viewing of the end of the program, however luckily the program this happened on had a play option.

My idea is after 30 mins on pause it should automatically adds the program into cloud recordings.

another idea.

During adverts on live programming a coloured dot could randomly appear on screen for say 10 seconds, clicking the color on the remote would give an interactive feedback that people actually saw the advert. This is what advertisers love! a virtual credit could be given every time a user clicks.

Virtual credits would be logged on your account and could be traded for freebies such as a days sky sport etc.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

The 40 minute timeout is actually due to the STB emulating a hard-disk based PVR with a limited amount of physical "live pause buffer". Given that VodafoneTV is using a CloudPVR, that records all channels all the time, this is simply a "virtual buffer" to ensure that rights holders are happy with the STB behaviour. (It is a complicated world when it comes to rights!) Rest assured though that there will be continuous improvements in this area going forward.

If any of you folks haven't received my email about the Geekzone Pizza AKL (or missed the thread in the Off Topic sub-forum), I have received an update and Vodafone is looking to have CEO Jason Paris, CTO Tony Baird and Vodafone TV Product Manager Hamish @Sansom there to answer questions and get to know more about the community...

We have about 60 people registered so far and plenty of space left! Keep the registrations for this event coming and get to talk about Vodafone TV directly to the people who know things.

Has anyone ever managed to get the mobile app to work? Here are the official instructions:

https://help.vodafone.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/28891/related/1

The app prompts for a username and password, but I never had a username assigned when I registered for Vodafone TV or when I set up my My Vodafone account. Both of these services use an email address and password, but entering that email address as my 'username' in the app doesn't work.

It's all very confusing.

The app isn't supported with the new VTV box currently but support is due this month, referring to previous information in this thread.

Only problem with this is that the live channels are not controlled by vodafone and vodafone are not getting paid for the ads.

Yes, correct... coming later this month with a new way of linking the app to the STB household account (and the new linking method will be the new method for any "bundled" gen1 users setting up for the first time also, although Gen1 users who have already linked won't have to re-link).

Looking forward to it.  I was talking about this with @olof yesterday who says he'll also be there.
