quickymart: So what changes now? Anything? Nothing?

Have you read the article? Clearly nothing as the sale goes ahead 2020

The Transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals, with completion anticipated during Vodafone’s 2020 financial year

I'm confused the stuff article gets a little more specific. Saying end of August.

He expected the deal, which is subject to approval by the Overseas Investment Office and the Commerce Commission, would be completed by the end of August.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/112669368/vodafone-nz-sold-for-34b?

I'm pretty sure financial year is typically denoted by the calendar year in which it ends and that VFNZ's runs March-March.  This would mean we are already in FY2020 so completion by August would work.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

It's taken them 13 years to get BB and mobile on the same bill so I think power would be a wee while off.

My understanding was it took 13 years as they built a platform by which, going forward, billing could be endlessly more flexible, expandable and this means things like this could happen much faster.

I am unsure if in reality trustpowers power business would be merged onto the same bill. Seems like a mistake to me.

I'm wondering if Infratil will want to realise any synergies between its new VFNZ business and its existing investment in TrustPower who are also a major player in the ISP market.

Guaranteed. Synergies will help, but all on one bill for mobile, BB, power, Sky, thats quite a customer convenience. Maybe Spark should become a power provider as well

It's taken them 13 years to get BB and mobile on the same bill so I think power would be a wee while off.

So it must now be easier. Many would see all on one bill handy, many would just take that on the assumption its a better deal as its a "bulk" deal, even though it may not be cheaper. Psychology would work for them

Same CEO, the NZ Herald article (which conveniently isn't behind paywall) says Jason Paris will stay on.

We can only hope that he has the ability now to make actual changes which benefit customers as the customer service level has only gone downhill since he took over. My gut feeling is this isn't the best investment for infratil, and I honestly think they have bought a lemon. Most people I know have recently moved their business away from Vodafone and given their experience are refusing to go back. We are a small country with a small population, so when you treat customers like dirt (especially kiwis) then we vote with our feet.

Would be interesting to see the numbers Vodafone have lost and the numbers 2degrees have gained, I wonder if they still report that?

How much I hate the service, vodafone has the best Roaming plan. I wonder $5 roaming may be taken off the menu given they won't be part of vodafone network?

You seem to think that turning around a company that has a 2B revenue is a 5 minute job. He has only been there a few months and there was a lot of things happening which had to be completed before he could start his regeneration. That's my take anyway. Things are grim at VF re customer service etc, however I don't doubt they can turn things around, as Russell Stanners did before him. Bottom line is VFNZ is a rounding error on the VF Groups financials and they don't operate with much autonomy. Perhaps this investment by Infratil will be the start of something good.

Personally, whilst I have just moved my FLB from VF, my Mobile will remain there becuase for me their network is superior to anyone elses if you take into account coverage, 4G Speeds, roaming and everything else.

There seems to be a grim sort of sneering attitude in Kiwi's toward VF  almost hoping for it to fail and rejoycing in it's downward spiral. I find this disappointing to be honest.

I don't know how much worse things will get at VF before they get better, but I do think it's possible for a turn around and in the not too distant future. It will depend how Infratil view their investment in VF.

That would be a serious misstep. They will still retain strong links to the VF Group.

Roaming is a key part of why I am with VF. I don't use it extensively, but I don't want to go back to renting simcards in other countries to get cost effective phone/internet when I travel.

Honestly, this isn't just directed towards Vodafone but towards any company who fail to take ownership to fix issues. I don't blame Kiwi's who have got so fed up with the customer service Vodafone provide and have left, for hoping Vodafone fail.

Thats the thing with a small country, you cant treat customers like crap and somehow hope they forgive you.

I'll agree with you on that. I occasionally read the Stuff comments (as just one example) for a laugh, but its actually embarrassing. Snide, incorrect, shallow. Whether that is modern Kiwi's, or just a modern day issue, I have no idea. People IMHO were often fairly deep and serious, these days it often seems to be shallow and selfish.

Plus, he's gonna get an equity stake, so he will have an added incentive to make things better....

(Infratil and Brookfield, will each have 49.9% leaving 0.2% for management,

As long as VDFN NZ will get Apple iPhone release on launch day then that'll be fine for me.

Just got an email from VF announcing the sale. I am surprised it wasn't sent by Jason Paris. It's normally the thing that the CEO writes about.

Was signed off Ken Tunnicliffe Business Director
