The new plan is rubbish - I would be interested to hear what others in Stokes Valley are getting but I gone from a steady 50/2 before upgrade, to a variable 32-57/4-6 after the upgrade - and now where near the possible 900/300!!! They've also not completed the work order as there are outstanding items to be completed.

Hi there,

50/10 speeds are indicative of an incorrectly provisioned cable modem. Feel free to PM your details and I can take a look at what's going on with your accounts.

Yep, sounds like a provisioning error to me as well. Nick should be able to sort it.

I get between 700 to 900mbs on the downlink and the connection has been reliable here in Stokes Valley with FibreX Max.

Short answer is yes they are –Downer was summoned to a meeting not long before COVID lockdown and was told by Vodafone they will be no longer provisioning HFC. Reading between the lines they intend to keep the HFC going long enough until their remaining customers are either migrated to UFB, Wireless or even VDSL. As a result at least 8 Downer Installers have lost their jobs but they have kept the Faultmen on. It’s very surprising how “hush hush” it’s all been kept. Not a peep out of it on the news, internet or even out of the unions. We can only guess Vodafone’s reasoning’s…but hey, it’s their business and their decision. :-)

@Sockpuppets69 Well that was a waste of a huge investment, Guess the new owners are not interested in HFC

One way of looking at it is they know that Free Fibre Installs won't be forever so better to pull the pin now.

Looking at the Vodafone site there is hardly a mention of HFC to be found on it now, even the 200mbit fibre option is now gone.

I recently gave up on Vodafone HFC after being a customer since the TelstraClear days and switched to another provider following a fiasco with my legacy T box which had started to play up.

Initially I was told they would replace it with a VodafoneTV and there would be no additional cost. After getting underway with that I was then told it was going to end up costing me an additional $15 per month and after a year it would be an extra $20 per month. I would have to resign to a 12 month contract. Also tried to upsell me a skytv which I wasn't interested in. I was currently to of contract, and was not prepared to go back onto contract simply to replace a faulty piece of their own equipment.

After much tooing and froing with the ridiculous chat bot (I do not chat with bots!) which sent me round in circles, then being jerked around via twitter DM and email and finally actually talking to a real person I told them I wouldn't be resigning and to stick it.

Got a fibre install done couple weeks ago and very happy with both the install process and the performance I'm getting on gigabit fibre.

@NickR1 appreciate it may be commercially sensitive etc. but any comment on the future of HFC?. Website seems to have withdrawn most mentions of it and some people have said they are not getting offered it for new connections?

I'm afraid I can't comment on our sales/products. My expertise primarily lies within fixed tech & provisioning which is why I generally only reply to those sorts of concerns.

I've sent a couple of emails to appropriate departments to see if someone can answer these questions.

Will be a shame if the HFC network is shut down.  A bit of competition is always good. I've been a customer since the saturn days and I might have been lucky but cable has always been rock stable for me.  The HFC max I'm on plan is cheap and fast...

You can see that email being a driver for all the artifacting on t-box now (it’s becoming noticeable), and I guess they need to pull out the pots equipment (it is getting on for 25 years now) and go through the process of taking stuff down.

ah well, I guess HFC is finally done.

I saw a comment further up saying if network is decommissioned then the overhead needs to be taken down, would they do the same as First Media and leave the underground stuff untouched? Or could Vodafone potentially replace the Coax with Fibre?
