@Behodar: I did enjoy the iPhone 3G feature where you could load carrier logos / carrier packs by hand. I know it was unrealistic for them to retain that feature but was good whilst it lasted.

@bendud: I’m guessing customers leaving because of the name change will be minimal. I guess what could be a bigger issue is visitors to NZ picking Vodafone because of their global branding. Post name change, it will be much more about presence at airports and marketing.

I guess it’s a calculated risk as all the other players aren’t international brands. Wrapping up - I can’t see myself leaving because of a name change… but I have no problems dropping companies or services that go against my values.

I'd agree. It's an evolution of sorts. BellSouth, Ihug, TelstraClear. Myself and clients have stayed with over the years, I don't anticipate changing.

PolicyGuy:

It seems to me that "One New Zealand" ought to be the brand of some vaguely sinister right-wing political party.
But maybe that's just me
LOL

Actually, it might not be just you.

I assume this went through many highly qualified professionals? But they somehow missed so many things one can quickly Google. Just such a bizarre choice of name.

@nunasdream We all thought Spark and Skinny were bizarre names as well but look now!

@Linux - seconded. I’ve had the pleasure of working for Jason before and strongly suspect he would not tolerate any racist behaviours. Even then, I think One/Vodafone have their money where their mouths are - you just need look at their charitable programmes.

I think people are reading waaay to much into the name.

Indeed they are reading far too much into it. Ironically, many of them who say One is into white supremacy also complained loudly about the opposite when Voda’s carrier name said “VF Kia Ora”.

Less reading into things and more actual reading required, I feel.

sdavisnz: All this and still no e Sim.

Priorities......

Also I feel I one is a silly name, not descriptive at all.

Big pipe

Skinny

Much more descriptive.

Part of the rebranding could also mean a revamped website, mobile app etc. so the whole esim maybe getting rolled into that project rather than trying to retrofit it to what exists today. One of the places I worked for years ago did the same thing, kept the existing setup going with only the absolutely necessary investment to keep it running while all the focus was on put on the replacement. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

I believe the rebranding will have minimal impact on their IT systems. Provisioning, CRM and billing unlikely to change as a result of the brand change.

Dependent on their level of integration with group, they will likely have an untangling project to stand up local equivalents… however this would happen whether their name is Vodafone NZ or One NZ. This part is likely to be the main delay towards One/Voda nz offering esim and/or wearable plans.
