Whether Telstra update their plans is moot for me now. I'm heading to oz on the 16th, where i'll be able to have access to 1TB plans for less than what I am paying right now for 90GB.

Hopefully when i'm back one day the internet in this country will be less abysmal.

blakamin: Wonder how long we have to wait?

Agree. Rather frustrating and likewise time for TCL to fix asap.

Well, there other options out there, it's not like TCL is the only ISP in NZ. The NZ landscape is definitely a lot better than even two years ago.

This is wrong.  For some cable customer there is no other choice.

Why is that - is it because TCL is the only supplier of Internet to their premises? Or because the person requires the additional bandwidth of cable?

In my case, Telecom just haven't put resource in my area.  I was looking at VDSL, but it's just not there.

Sure I can get ADSL2+, but Telecom haven't put the protocol on it to give me 2mbits up stream (which they could, but didn't - it's been done in Australia, but not here).

So in your case it's that you require a minimum upload speed and only TCL can supply at that upload speed?

Have to admit, upload speed is one thing I miss with ADSL2+ when compared to cable. I was with Telstra for about 9 years, and on cable for 7 of those 9 years. After getting back from the UK, I looked around and saw that Telstra just wasn't as competitive as it used to be, especially after getting used to unlimited data in the UK.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yes.

Telstra is the only provider in my area that can currently delivery service to my door.

I can choose to pay $55,000 to get a fibre installed from Enabled or $5000 to get fibre from Telecom, but the cost of running the Telecom fibre is so high that it's just not realistic.

That's a shame.
