I love the idea for the product.  It does feel a bit beta-ish still.

I couldnt work out why some programs couldnt be recorded.. its actually a real PITA not having all content recordable due to licensing.

The hardware is pretty cool.. im really impressed with the video quality so far.

There definately needs to be some human user interface people involved.. work out what people do and make those functions quick to get to .. to get to the guide theres multiple ways.. in fact theres a few different views to the guide. but to get there the easiest way i found was 5 or 6 clicks..

seeing if things are series linked is hard.. the icon is very small.. and if you hit the R button a few times it seems to delete the whole lot you have recorded?

Its a cool product, but its never going to pass the wife test as she has mysky currently.  she uses it when out and about to watch stuff all the time on her phone. she can record everything.. no 'this cant be recorded'

I think its going to sit in my office so i can have nice HD streaming tv if im working in here.

and will probably go to work everytime theres big sporting events like the melbourne cup etc that people want to watch.. simply plug into one of the projectors and connect to wifi.. done.

Please note the following I posted to the beta test forum, on 57.11 of Gen2 Set Top Box of firmware which is now the current firmware, before you assume the box will work if you take it to another network:

IvanPiacun:

IvanPiacun:

Today I tried taking my Vodafone Gen2 Set Top Box with update 57.11 to Awatere Rest home so my wife could use it, which required connecting it to their network with WiFi 5 GHZ rather than the fixed Ethernet connection I used at home but it would not connect. I checked the WiFi password by connecting my phone and it was correct. I then brought it back home and connected it via WiFi 5GZ to my home Network and it worked successfully. Is there something I am missing, or will it only connect to the first network it is connected to, or is this a bug?

I have discovered that Awatere uses IP4 10.57.77.x for their internal WiFi network, and I use 192.168.1.x so could the use of these different subnets be stopping VTV 57.11 version from using the Awatere network if I do not reset the VTV? i.e. Is it retaining an IP address, or gateway, and DNS settings  and not refreshing to new ones with DHCP?

Slightly OT: When will Comedy Central and MTV streams be upgraded to HD? (streams I think are 2.3 Mbps from memory and both looked SD). Also assuming (I don't subscribe) that HD upgrade to Discovery and Discovery Turbo also not done.

Right now I can't add and sky channels which is really frustrating.

I have Sky Starter and Sport but not able to add anymore. Am on hold with Vodafone help desk but don't think I will get anywhere with them.

The site also doesn't show my current active subscription.

Anyone else have or had this issue before?

Nope. Only oddity I noted was that they billed my credit card on 20/11. Transaction appears on statement yet the card had expired in October.

Something has happened. After weeks of crashing, lagging, blackscreen, "Not subscribed", etc errors, tonight it just worked like it should.  This is wonderful, has there been a server fix?

Are you sure you are not now on 57.11CA the current beta i.e with UI version 51.5711.6 which you can see under Settings, More Settings, Information?

@sansom My unit has developed a new habit. Following a suggestion by HamishVF I changed to Wifi connection however the unit is still experiencing problems coming out of sleep mode. It has also started a new thing, it will sometimes come out of sleep mode but the picture is in slow motion with no sound. The remote is unresponsive and only a power cycle will bring the unit back.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Hi @MikeB4, haven't heard of this behaviour before... what firmware version are you on?

My unit has problems coming out of sleep mode. Very often it will have a frozen picture with sound and a channel change will bring it back. Occasionally will just have no picture (black screen) and require power reset.

Those having issues with sleep mode etc, do you have HDMI-CEC enabled on your TV?

I found after I turned that off on the TV all issues with coming out of standby stopped. This could have coincided with an update but worth a try anyway!
