Jase2985:@teza when you start testing gigabit speeds limitations start to show in the hardware. what router are you using? if its the HG659 then there shouldnt be an issue, the lissue is likely to be in your own hardware.
even the server you test to can give you lower results.
Teza:
Ive used both the Voda supplied HG659 and my netgear r8500 both same results on both desktops. All wired 1 gig Eth connection to routers. 2 pcs tried, one a new core i5-7600 kabylake based. I would have thought I would be pushing more than 550mbps with this set up.
Which server are you testing to?

What do you get to acsdata?

have you tried it with different browers? using the windows 10 speedtest app? Fast.com? with AV turned off? with no firewall on?
lots of things you can try. it may not help but at least your ruling out our equipment.
Have you tried any other devices (even over wifi) like a phone or tablet? I know everyone will say testing over wifi is wrong but it could show that the issue is the laptop if you get a faster result to another device.

and the speedtest app? for windows 10?

Can't get over 200Mbps with this.
I've checked everything I can, turned off anti virus, firewall, cables tested, routers changed, Pcs changed out, still nothing over about 550 Mbps, latency is around 7 ms at best. I know under real world conditions this speed is fine but I would have thought at some stage I should touch at least 700Mbps.
odd you cant get over 200mbit with the app, its normally the fastest as it relies on the least amount of outside influences
It turns out that YouTube can play back 8K, 60 FPS footage now. Neat! Unfortunately, even on a gigabit plan it caps out at around ~70-80 Mbps, which isn't quite enough to prevent buffering. Not really something that's going to hinder everyday life, but a shame that a gigabit connection drops to less than 10% of maximum potential speeds there.
And before anyone starts responding, this comment is (mostly) in jest. The bitrate is more than enough for solid, consistent 4K60. Certainly looks like there's some room for improvement down the road, though. ;)

I have enough trouble getting 4K to play, and I thought I had a pretty reasonable spec machine!
Hi,
I have read this thread and see people having success getting rid of the Vodafone router and using a Pfsense appliance.. I have also read to configure the wan to use vlan10 and dhcp. After restarting the modem, i sill am not getting assigned it says pending.
This device was used on the older cable system with an assigned static ip also from Vodafone.. I have asked for a static again, but understand that it was assigned through dhcp...
Not sure what else is important. Any suggestions welcome, need to get my Pfsense Wan working in all its glory. LOL
Thanks
