Hi,

I have read this thread and see people having success getting rid of the Vodafone router and using a Pfsense appliance.. I have also read to configure the wan to use vlan10 and dhcp. After restarting the modem, i sill am not getting assigned it says pending.

This device was used on the older cable system with an assigned static ip also from Vodafone.. I have asked for a static again, but understand that it was assigned through dhcp...

Not sure what else is important. Any suggestions welcome, need to get my Pfsense Wan working in all its glory. LOL

Hi there - pfSense is very easy to setup and im sure your just one step away.

Double check under Interfaces then (Assign) that you have the VLAN you created set as the WAN NIC. There really is only a couple steps to setup pfSense&FibreX DHCP so keep on the basics.

To add some more value to the forum - I have got ESXi running pfSense as a VM connected to FibreX with complete ease. As can image just do the VLAN tag on ESXi. I had it running on IBM server and now over to my little Aliexpress machine. Get over 900down easy with 35% CPU on the little machine. Highly recommend the Qotom-Q310G4, just look out the NICs are not in order. (3 and 4 are mixed up) But - I would run pfSense native to that Qotom machine as ESXi has crashed a couple of times when I was tweaking ESXi (but doesnt crash if left alone)

Yup that is the part that had me pulling out my hair since yesterday.. I did have wan(dhcp) assigned to my vlan. And vlan 10 as my nic.. emo1 or whatever.....Sounds like what your saying..Ended up breaking it down because had a fractal design node 202 case and a newer drive I been wanting to use... Only to realize my power supply is just a tad to big from my cheap setup..... Serves me right....DOH. So now I have a mandatory time out until a get an new power supply. Thanks for responding. Sounds like I am pretty close if I didnt just sabotage myself.

Hi, I am back. I rebuilt the unit.. And I am stuck at same the same spot. I figure there has to be more the the basic setting of... vlan set to 10, Wan set to vlan, Interface is set to DCHP.. So there must be more.. Do I have to go to advance client settings for DCHP in the interface? I have tried putting in the MAC address of the supplied router, but get the notification its not valid... Any help would be great. These basic routers just don't come close to pfSense....

Turns out just took incredibly long to get an IP address. I ended up getting incredible speeds around 900 down. In first week it went down for over 5 hours in a large area around where I live. And speeds have been just horrible. I have not reached those speeds consistently sense. Not exactly sure what issues are going on since they dont report. But when a lot of towns go down over a large area for a work day and its not in the local paper , I get buyers remorse.

Consumer Magazine has run a story saying the brand "FibreX" is misleading given it is Coax cable entering the house, also the Commerce Commission is investigating also

Where in the valley do you live? I'm up in Fenchurch Grove and no stability issues but peak speeds are not usually that great. Not that it matters, everything I do runs fine.

Where in the valley do you live? I'm up in Fenchurch Grove and no stability issues but peak speeds are not usually that great. Not that it matters, everything I do runs fine.

In Robson Street and get consistent speeds via speedtest.net.

I just wish the article had more substance. With statements like "Some people on FibreX have complained speeds during peak times can be worse than those experienced on the old ADSL copper lines".

Really? Where? When? How many people?

I know cable used to suffer from congestion prior to docsis 3.1 upgrades but do people really have peak time issues now?

As for the name... it may be a bit of a stretch but given it is a HFC network (Hybrid fibre-coaxial) the use of fibre in the name is hardly a surprise (fibre cross - or X - seems reasonable to me).
