I maybe missing something here, and forgive me if I am but, companies move all the time. I have lost count of how many times Spark (and Telecom) have moved in Wellington. Chorus have moved several times in the last few years. HP, IBM, BNZ to name just a few more
that have moved in Wellington. In the 23 years at my last employer I moved six times.

An easy mistake but the news about move was in itself correct. Vodafone made it look like completely, 100% wrong. Matt can blame new comm's staff but decision is really at the top - Russell could easily just said "yes, but no details are available" instead of the whole "we are thinking of taking legal action against the paper" that doesn't look good (well, for the majority of readers it makes no difference really but for industry analysts and observers it just feels like disconnected).

Also, remember that large companies trying to control news  is something that doesn't really work in this century. It could have been something easy to do in the 90s and early 2000s but these days it's all but impossible to control news flow.

If the lease had not been signed and Herald was claiming it was signed then yeah that's 100% wrong. If it had been signed then someone is lieing.

While I can get behind the freedom of the press I also a big supporter of accuracy. If an article says X and Y have happened and it is reasonable to speculate that Z follows that's great. Stating however that Z has happened when it hasn't however I think is something we should be wary of. Less  of a big deal sure when you are dealing with something the size of VF with lawyers on call but a little more scary if you are talking about a smaller entity.

For clarity's sake I don't have access to the original article just making comments based off the current version with their retraction of two statements. Perhaps the original article did make a clear distinction between speculation which some key points were right and some details were wrong. If this is the case then I stand by my above sentiments and would agree that it is fairly written.

From a company and potential for improved customer service yeah I'd say its a positive move. From an employee with colleagues who will be negatively impacted by it its a big deal. From a wider point of view I'd agree its not really particularly newsworthy outside of interested parties.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

Good on you bro. But what about the majority of the staff? Or those in South AKL? If you are part of the Comms team of Vodafone (I assume), you're suppose to bring in thoughts/views of the wider Vodafone team. Not just your point of view.

JohnR *is not part of the Vodafone Comms team*. He helps on Geekzone on his own time, on technical stuff.
