Madmax77:Aaroona:genuineguy:Iphone 3G is a great phone. It's vodafones pricing in nz which is hurting me. Guys we have waited long for the phone to come in. Why not wait couple of months more before buying it. Let vodafone hold that stock longer. The Prices will come down as some new phone will be released soon and Aplle iphone 3g will not be hot then. Even Parallel import phone will be here sometime soon. Atleast i have the patience to wait. Do you?
I sort of do. But I hate using the crappy phone i have now. lol.
Im in the same boat as you. I can have my iphone for as low as $40 a month with no data. (I'll just use wifi at home, as its not IMPORTANT to me)
Or $70 with 200mb data.
I mean, even thats still cheaper than the cheapest iphone plan, haha.
But If I do buy, im going to Tosh with my money. Vodafone can shove it.
As for iphone plans? No way. I will do it my way. Keep my existing one and pay up front. Save me money ranging from 1000-5000.What's the point in shelling out for the iPhone 3G if you don't want data? Your original iPhone with version 2.0 software will do everything the iPhone 3G will do minus fast 3G data (irrelevant to you since you don't want data, only Wi-Fi) and built in GPS which in your case will be useless as you don't want mobile data. You can sit at home on your wi-fi connection and see where you are...but that's about it.What exactly do you intend using your iPhone 3G for? Showing off to your mates? You'd be better off with an iPod Touch...who'd know the difference?
So whats the deal, who's organising this protest, how many people are actually coming and are people going to bring some protest signs.
Me and a mate will turn up with a banner if everyone else it.
And the people mocking people for protesting about a phone... Dude, I'm a geek, what am I meant to protest about? Cheese?
acidbaby:magu:acidbaby:PoLiGnAc: i disagree that the pricing is reasonable. $80 is a lot of buying power in new zealand and the rates we get charged, compared to overseas such as UK and even asian countries are just absurd. Theres heaps of places to compare what we are paying for against what we have receive. 80 per month on 250mb and 120 mins are just plain insulting.
Why don't you go live there then? I disagree with the buying power comment, it's all quite relative.. there are certain things we get cheap here in NZ eg. rent, food etc. so we have more disposable income to blow on silly gadgets :)
Sorry to barge in, but if you think rent and food are cheap in NZ, what year are you living in?
2008 buddy, you been to UK/Europe lately? Cost of living is extermly high compared to here, even with our latest increases in our cheese prices lol
Maybe the Govt over there subsidises these kind of gadgets to make an hour trip on the tube more bearable every morning so they can get people to go to work lol.
I guess im one of the ones that maybe missed the point.. I realise that people are upset over the "cost to obtain an iphone" but where is the problem? People comment, including the particularily bad journalism from the herald staff, about the "$6000 cost to obtain it over the 2 year period" but why not put things into perspective?
Cost outright - $979

Hopefully the formatting stays.. =P
But where is the problem? From looking at that, the iphone plan on offer FAR exceeds the currently available alternative.
Yeah, i guess if you dont want to look at the plans, the cost to buy the handset outright is a bit more expensive than the US alternative (US$599 = Approx NZ$750). But the plans are awesome imo.
(and no, i dont sell iphones) ;)

Aaroona: So before i leave, who is actually attending tonight?
ahmad:Aaroona: So before i leave, who is actually attending tonight?
With you (in spirit).
Are you taking a sign along?
You know, I've love nothing better than for a proper stunt to have been arranged for this night
Imagine someone dressed up in a giant cuddly Vodafone cellphone suit, hugging people in line and giving it to them "doggie style".
Or 1st in line buying it and then smashing it in front of the rest of the crowd (like that PS3 stunt smash my PS3).
Or of course that flash-mob.
Oh well
magu:
The problem is not the pricing, is what you get in terms of data. And it's not just for the iPhone, it's Vodafone's absurd data charges in general.
But of course people started realizing it now because the iPhone has media coverage, and Vodafone is now finally being exposed for their data charges compared to other countries.
Obtaining the iPhone is not the hard part. Keeping it is (data wise).
