We've made great progress around these limitations (as many people would hopefully vouch for), the only issue we now see from time to time is local Telecom exchange congestion.

Agreed. I haven't had speed issues with Xnet for a couple of years now... in fact it's been so trouble free that I almost forgot I ever had annoyances! Youtube, *nix updates, online video streams - all play stutter free these days. Good stuff.

Whoa, just found this deal with Telstra Clear. 75-80 dollars, free 40 gigs per month for 12 months! Plus two months phone and broadband free! You even get a decent wireless router free with it. (RTA1025WE) That would save me like forty dollars a month.

The Telstraclear offer looks pretty good.

If I rememebr correctly, 1 year contract and then back up to $110-ish per month.

I did not check out what extra charges would be for calls and other services.

I see the router isn't 802.11n or IPv6 [the RTA1025WV6 is IPv6 ready]

The router is just a bonus. Yup, waiting to see the new deals. Hope they are out soon. With this blimmin' world financial crisis and cost of living through the roof I've got to make smarter financial decisions for the family. Darn tank of petrol for the car costs me a hundred, I'm considering only mowing half the lawn.

Certainly cheaper is better, but may I request that the included Supercap at least become optional please? I barely make any toll calls...

I wonder if they will offer a monthly rental of the hardware like Orcon does with the Genius. Its a real sticking point with the cost of the hardware (and maybe relative complexity for non technical users?)

Complexity? You can buy pre-configured units direct form (actually through) them which you just plug in. But they do need a low cost all-in-one unit like the AG310 which went obsolete.

Spreading payments would be better (than rental), but it is one-off since you actually buy if from PB Technologies.

I'd agree with that the ability to pay off some of the hardware would be great as I'd love to upgrade my old WAG for one of the new Wireless N units but can't really afford to buy it in one hit.

This is something I'm especially interested in. Since discovering unblock-us.com I'm enjoying having access to BBC iPlayer and Hulu, but my data has taken a huge hit, and the bills have soared accordingly. It's looking likely that we'll continue to watch online like this, so I've been looking at ways to cut data costs.

I'm on Xnet's naked DSL with VFX, and it didn't look like anything else was worth looking at until I saw the Slingshot deal. http://slingshot.co.nz/bundles They're offering 100GB, with a bundled homeline (I'm guessing this is a landline rather than VOIP), for $91. This looks like a pretty sweet deal, and would cut my costs by over $100 a month if I d/l 100GB each month. It would also solve my phone QoS issues (which I'll deal with in a different post), giving us a hardline once again. Can anyone see any problems with this deal? How are Slingshot these days with connection speeds, customer service, etc?

If Xnet offered a comparable deal, however, I'd be keen to stay with them. Xnet's customer service has always been impeccable, but with this change in usage, the data cost isn't sustainable. I've never had a need for a data bundle before, and the pay as you go has suited me until now. But if I continue to watch online, then a big bundle of data looks the way to go.

For on-line movies you should limit the bandwidth for the device you use for watching movies. A friend of mine does it with Net Flix, limited to I think 3Mbps instead of 10Mbps. Don't ask me what he did, probably got a fancy router as he is a network security guy working for international companies.

I've just signed back up to xnet after going overseas for a few months. In that time things have changed somewhat and a number of ISPs have become a lot more competitive.

I was on the torrential plan (free from 2am to 8am), which suited me really well. Unfortunately xnet won't put me back on the same plan (even though i'm at the same address), so it makes xnet an expensive option.

The telstraclear deal looks pretty sweet (tolls are more expensive) and the Orcon Genius plans are pretty tempting.

I'd rather just stay with xnet, ideally on the plan I was on before but that doesn't seem to be an option. Failing that, hopefully there will be some new naked DSL plans that are little more competitive.

If there is nothing released by the end of November, I might jump ship to Telstraclear (their deal ends then). Xnet's service has been good for the few years i've been with them...but it's hard when you can get better deals elsewhere.
