Incidentally my speeds have gone back up 85Mbps to local server, 65Mbps to Sydney or the US. Still can't watch streaming video. Performance matches the very low speeds others are reporting.

TrueNet August 2015 Broadband Report

Just released:

"Vodafone Cable has a similar network structure to Fibre, where all users share a backhaul from a local node.  Vodafone Cable continued to have serious congestion in the evenings right throughout August after having insufficient capacity to support the major increase in on-line video that started with Netflix launch in March."

"Vodafone Cable had the lowest average speed from each country compared to all fibre services, this is most likely due to their major problems with congestion in the wake of online Video growth starting in March.  Cable services became extremely congested in March and the situation has continued to worsen to the point that most of our 100Mb/s panelists consistently get less than 5Mb/s at some stage during the evening busy hours of 8 - 10pm.  Vodafone have publicly promised that work is proceeding as quickly as possible (we know it is a big task) with a target completion in September.  Most of our monitored connections are now (mid September) showing serious improvement, but there is still improvement to go, with the average mid-peak speed being about 50-70Mb/s."

Fibre is starting to have problems too.

It's really interesting to see just how much international performance in particular has suffered. There have been several reports here, and my flatmates noticed that it was really bad ~2-3 weeks ago. They've said that it's been better for this last week, though, which I've also noticed.

Things are mostly good for me tonight, but cloning a repository from GitHub is going along pretty slowly. I've dipped to under 150 KB/s (1.2 Mbps) at points. It's fluctuating between anywhere from that to up to just shy of 1 MB/s.

No upgrades for Island Bay this week, sadly, but at least things are behaving better, likely thanks to some of the back-end upgrades. At least I don't feel like I'm being incessantly whiny by finding a way to post here almost every night anymore. :D

Mostly good but in the last hour or so our Netflix stopped five or six times.

Stopping that often doesn't sound mostly good. Let's not start seeing this kind of performance as acceptable. Vodafone sold us all something they've not been providing for some time, yes there's no SLA on the residential connections but no one in their right mind should be saying a 100Mbps buffering repeatedly on video streaming is behaving as advertised.

I'm getting less than dial up speeds tonight.  This really is a piece of sh * t.

I've requested a refund from vodafone for the abomination of a service over the last few months.  Be interested to see what they say.

Thanks to JohnR and Dylan for keeping us informed through this debacle.

have the in-laws staying this weekend and we have been trying to introduce them to video streaming. All we have done is put them off with low quality image with constant buffering and dropouts. I was pretty embarrassed to be honest, had promised them a weekend of movies and TV shows in HD.

I'm sorry, but I don't have the luxury to dictate when my in-laws will arrange there visits from the South Island, next time I will tell them to plan their trip around my internet connection.

or you could just not show them online streaming while your internet connection is a POS? that would be a lot easier

But you can dictate what you promise and when, so why did you promise them a weekend of streaming movies and TV shows in HD when you knew you were having connection issues?

Because I pay Vodafone $100.00 a month to stream movies and TV in HD. They arranged their trip months ago. I started having issues 2 weeks ago. Can you lot stop trying to make a fool out of me and instead focus on the real problem here. Stop trying to bring down your fellow geeks!

The real problem here is congestion, as per the title of the thread. International speeds and ridiculous latency seem to be a whole different issue.

That said, has anyone here called Vodafone about the international problems? I know you certainly haven't, but neither have I.
