Is that actually true? I'd have thought that it came over its own "channel" and wouldn't touch the Internet.

Multi cast is how it's delivered does not touch the internet

Nope. They moved to fully over the top. Standard unicast.

Regardless, the box is still connected to the Internet for packet transmission so the article is not entirely incorrect.

Ummm, is there any prioritisation anywhere, are their policies in the core routers to not drop tagged packets etc? I trust netflix to work solidly in a pure ISP because that's the enemy they have to work with globally...

It's basically at the network edge anyway.. so would handle it fine.
