alasta:

I tried to get my connection transferred to eSIM at a OneNZ store this afternoon but they couldn't do it because computer said no.

While I was there I asked the guy if there were any updates on the Apple Watch situation and he said that it was originally planned for January but got delayed. I had been thinking that the end of this year was the most likely scenario but maybe the middle of the year could be possible.

We had to pause all esim activations due to a pretty unfortunate outage(no idea if this was fixed as I turn my work phone off past my hours, can check and DM you tomorrow if fixed).

And yeah we're not going to announce when it will happen until it's actually going to happen.

Know some folks are a bit tired of the "soon" but it's all we can give until it's ready

Thanks for the reply.

I know you understand the whole gripe with "soon" but surely there is a roadmap or literally anything that could give us a bit more than just soon? I'm not asking for a date but perhaps the marketing team/managers could give us just a little more?

I'm just as keen as you are to see this rolled out, but we need to respect the commercial sensitivities around it. OneNZ aren't going to want to expose their project timelines to their competitors.

This is not going to happen unless you want to see staff fired

TBH it was Jason and other One NZ comms staff who have said several times in several forums that eSIM for wearables was coming "in early 2023" and I think everyone appreciated this upfront approach. Clearly it is delayed a bit so maybe just reset that expectation to "by mid 2023" or whatever is appropriate. I really can't see that there is anything commercially sensitive around it.

Why would staff be fired for releasing official comms?

He's not asking for inside information, he's asking for One to update their comms.

Sorry it's the only answer anyone can give. Anything else could be commercially sensitive (I don't work in this space) so the official word is soon somewhere in 2023 as per the website.

It’s not the only answer anyone can give. It’s the answer the business has chosen to give. The business could change its mind and give a better answer. If they don’t then customers are quite entitled to call them out on it.

Just like the other esim threads on here I'm going to give this a lock for now.

One NZ Staff - Feel free to "Request Unlock" when you have further news you can share.

To everyone else, the official word is on their site and no staff are going to share anything further. Those who have been on the forums long enough remember the black helicopter incident and we don't want another repeat of that.

OneNumber (eSIM for wearables) goes live this Thursday (3rd August)!

Initially it will be available for Samsung Galaxy watches only. We’re still working with Apple to get Apple Watches up and running and that is still expected this year.

I haven’t got full details on cost, plans, process etc, but this should be updated on our website very soon.

*takes off work hat to post personal speculation*

My gut feeling is that Apple Watch compatibility will coincide with watchOS 10 or this year’s hardware releases.

Is there a reason why you think that (personally?)

To me it seems pointless to wait until WatchOS 10/latest hardware, since I assume the process is effectively the same across all of apple watch devices?

If I had to hazard a guess, there will be extra goodies (API goodness) required for the Apple journey via their Watch app.
