lchiu7: I am previous TCL/CF customer who jumped from the 150GB 100Mbs plan to Telecom ADSL2+ and then VDSL because of the low cap. But I have been underwhelmed by the VDSL speed which maxes out at about 28Mbs for me (distance from cabinet). Over the past few months the maximum I have used is 190GB in one month so I could live in the new 250GB plan.
Called VF today to ask if I added the 250GB 130Mbs plan back to my current package (which is TV and telephone for $105) what would be my new total bill. Told me it would be $213 so an increase of $108. I currently pay $108 for the Telecom plan which includes a phone which I don't even have connected. So moving back to VF cable would mean hardly any change in total charges but a much faster (albeit 50% less cap) Internet plan.
Before I do that I was wondering if people who do Netflix/Hulu/Amazon on the cable plan can comment on the performance. Do you get SuperHD on Netflix and does Amazon buffer much or at all?
Certainly recently on Telecom I have never been able to get HD on Netflix, let alone SuperHD and Amazon Instant Video is unwatchable due to all the buffering. One would expect all the streaming services to play okay on 2Mbs but who knows what the contention situation is up the line.
I don't mind eating early termination charges for Telecom if I can get better international service.
Thanks

Frontliner: If they want people to use their cable network they need to be cutting prices, not raising them.

Maybe they don't want people using their cable network?
amanzi: @lchiu7 - I'd love to know how to get reliable HD streaming on Netflix. Every time I try to watch something on Netflix, it stops/starts/buffers for the first 5 or so minutes before finally settling in. For example, I'll start a TV show and it will start playing in crappy SD for a minute, and then pause for buffering, then it might say that it's lost connection and go back to the Netflix screen, and it might do that two or three times before it manages to play the full episode. Amazon on the other hand, works really well - hardly ever buffers apart from a brief buffer at the start, and the quality is great.
I'm using Unotelly DNS at the moment but have tried other DNS and VPN services without any improvements.

The VF Mobile was an IPhone and was $60/month with 3GB data, then went to $70 for 1GB data (and a couple extra minutes of calls. It will next likely go to about $90 odd for 1GB data and even more calls - the issue I have is that no-one I know can afford to call mobiles, hence I have the landline.

Slightly OT but your Vodafone mobile plan seems very high. I presume your phone is under contract with a subsidy.
Given you can get 1GB of data and 300 minutes for $39 on Telecom, but only 500MB and 300 minutes on Vodafone for the same and you would have to spend $59 to get 1GB of data, I would find out the cost to exit the contract and move to another provider.

lokhor: I was hoping I could get in touch with someone from Vodafone as I have a couple of questions about these plans and my situation. IF someone from VF who deals with cable could PM me it would be much appreciated.
