Interesting that the standard voice charges haven't changed.

One question I have, is will the video services on Vlive be accessible to standard GSM phones that support video (ie. P910, windows smartphones etc) or will it be restricted to 3G sets only?

I'm guessing they are going to be along the same format as the shockwave flash animations they have on their site so far

Awesome data pricing - cant wait for Telecom to match this.

Anyone had problems sending text messages while connected to 3G?
PXT messages go through OK, but good old vanilla SMS fails.

I can't seem to send while I'm connected - it keeps coming up with "Send failed".

The message centre is setting is +6421600600.

Any ideas?

Thanks Mauricio for that site :-)

I have a big question, My k700i was "locked" to disallow mp3's being used for ringtones so i'm assuming these 3G phones will be too.
Does anyone know of the Parrallel imported phone working okay with VLIVE etc while still allowing the freedom to copy Downloaded files like videos and music clips to my PC using standard memory cards and allowing uploaded files of the same to be used and ringtones/videos played. IE Not restricted :-)

Cheers.

Interesting exclusion of VoIP under the pricing on this page:

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/vlive/3g/pricing_offers.jsp?item=3gpricing

Term #7 says: The use of Vodafone Mobile Connect for Voice over IP (VoIP) is excluded.

This must be aimed at Skype - and here's why:

Skype uses about 1/4 (.25) MB per minute (based on 30kbps - my best estimate). So the cost per minute therefore depends on what you are paying for data.

At $149 per Gigabyte that is 14.5c/MB or 3.6c per minute!

At $99 per 500MB that is 19.8c/MB or 4.95c per minute!

I wonder if this is just a legal exclusion, or if VoIP is blocked?

They can't block Skype - it uses the port 80...

So what do you think about the exclusion? Is it reasonable? What if you break it - do you forfeit your contract or whatever? Can Vodafone claim damages? Does Telecom have any similar exclusion? Skype on EVDO works pretty well and if the prices come down to match these then it is a very real possibility.

I think we are at what is called an 'inflection point' in fancy lingo.

Yes I noticed that and it has blown hopes for using Skype on the new 3g Pda's. It works(ed) lovely on the harrier which is dead due to overuse! :.-( it looks thus far I'll be replacing my harrier.

But in saying that, Telecom also have funny resrictions which are of interest.

"$10 cannot be used for bulk, marketing or SMS sent from a cable connected (IE tethered) handset"
"You may not send ringtones to other persons using Telecom Photo Messaging."

Telecoms clauses are to protect against spam, and copyright infringement.

Vodafones is just plain Corporate wa_kiness. >:-(
