So, apparently Vodafones new billing system shoudl be up and running by April 1st yea?

Do Vodafone face fines if number portability isn't ready by April 1st?

Who thinks BestMate on Account will be launched then also? Or does early 2007 mean around September?

What other changes do you think we will see?

Well, a friend at telecom was all too eager to tell me that I can move to them and get a plan on my prepay vodafone number, so I called vodafone to ask if they will be able to give me a you choose connection on my existing number on the 1st.

They said no, but assured me that I could put a voicemail on my prepay number giving people the new one, which is useless for outgoing calls/texts and incoming texts...

Ah well. Thats one number going to telecom if they don't have their A into G by the first. Sisters wanting to take her get 70 down to prepay, thats also a no go, so that will be another going to telecom on the 1st if they dont have it sorted out. There is always the chance that the front line staff will be the last to know, that seems to be the way at vodafone frequently.

Still trying to get the list of handsets that are ok so I can go hunt one down before the 1st.

I know of quite a few people on VF wanting to switch to/from OA from/to prepay but can't so they are switching their number to Telecom so they can.

I'm gonna switch to flexi since it seems the best deal at the moment (if you can get it without a term) and then see how things pan out with some actual competition, would prefer to move back to voda but I expect that I will only be able to move back to prepay otherwise this whole situation wouldn't happen.

I sure hope so.

I know so many ppz that have moved to prepay to get better add-ons. Or worse still now have a 021 you choose and a 021 pre pay. gets soooo confusing!!!

The new billing system and number portability are completely different.
Number portability will be in place on 1st April. The new billing system won't.
Porting between VF/TC will be supported, changing between pre & post won't be.
Best mate on on-account won't be supported on 1st April.

I didn't think you could port to a VF Prepay number.  I could be wrong though.

You should be able to port anything anywhere (of course 'porting' meaning 'portability between carriers' which means that if Vodafone are unable to move numbers (or choose not to, or cant in time etc etc) between OA and PrePay, you end up with this ridiculous situation of people moving from one platform, to a new carrier, back to a different platform on the old carrier.

Very silly stuff.

I look forward to NP - its going to be great, its a pity it took so long.

I head that they NEED the new billing system in place for NP to work at all
