I've just received an e-mail from TelstraClear saying I've used 7,891 additional blocks of data. Each additional block is 2GB, meaning they believe I've used about 15,800 GB in a single day - according to their meter.

Since each additional usage blocks are charged at $2.95, their stats page says I owe them about $23,280 in excess usage:

Anyone with the same problem today?

I just checked. Mine says

You have used 4170228 MB which is 100% of your monthly traffic allocation, plus an additional 2017 block(s) of usage costing $5,950.15!

Not as bad as yours but somewhat unreasonable I think!

Just out of the phone with TCL (only 22 minutes this time!) and it seems they are aware of this problem.

With possibly every single TCL cable customer calling into customer support at the moment, I don't think I'll join in - they'll have to look over everyone's account to figure out what happened.  What a huge screw-up.

I win (so far):

You have used 17538715 MB which is 100% of your monthly traffic allocation, plus an additional 8524 block(s) of usage costing $25,145.80.

This reminds me of the time that they billed me NZ$3k for a long list of "Telecom Charges".

Nice.

Official response:

Hi Juha

Our response to this below.

This one-off event (a fault with the usage metre) occurred this morning as a result of system configuration work.
Customers can be assured that we are fully aware of the issue and customers will not incur incorrect charges on their accounts as a result.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

We are currently looking at communicating this issue to customers via a message on the usage metre.

Thanks
Jodine

Dont worry about it... Telecom tried to ping me for $3k before, because they failed to tell me that I had been switched from Go LArge to What ever the hell their top plan is called these days.

Managed after about 2 months of agony to get them to erase the bill...

I've used 1.65 TB of data between 11AM and 1PM today - I didn't know my plan let me download at 2Gbit/second (1922Mbit) yet.

Edit: $4956.00 Additional charges.

Usagemeter is unavailable now;

"We are currently investigating issues with the information displayed on the Usage Meter and usage notifications received for some customers.

As a result the Usage Meter is currently unavaliable.

We apologise for the inconvenience and will have this resolved shortly."
