Noticed on my bill tonight in the message notified a short, sharp sentence:
"As of 11 April 2014 your Wiring and Maintenance Insurance cost will increase to $3.95 per month. This will continue to insure your fixed line wiring against general wear and tear"

A few years ago Telecom got itself into a right state over this charge - the definition of where the demarcation stopped and started changed to suit whatever commercial folk wanted that year.

I do think $48/year is on the nose though, so I will remove it.... but I always find it amusing how the 'VAS' service charges are tending to creep up year on year. CLI is $3.50/month - not bad revenue for a feature that came with the core voice switch in 1996 and costs the company nothing to enable or deliver... ditto the second number. I know VOIP providers bundle these things in for free but still....

Sigh, I wonder what else will creep in now as fibre is rolled out.... insurance for RGW failures????

IMO ONT is Chorus owned (in a Chorus area) but the RGW is customer or RSP owned not Chorus.

It is Chorus owned.. RGW is your own pile of router to deal with. Chorus can even run tests etc right up to the ONT so they know its a problem with the RGW when they say it. So no more of this no fault found and carry on.

The ONT is owned by Chorus/Enable/Northpower/UltraFast. Last I looked most RSP's were using their own RGW's rather than letting customers directly connect to the ONT, but some of the boutique ones like SNAP were supporting direct connection.

The Station was meant to be the Voda RGW.... meant to be....
