Hi,

For the last two weeks I have been seeing pings to a couple of test sites jump to over 700 ms in the evenings.

Traceroute shows the 700 ms latency at my first hop... my connection is normally a very solid sub 20 ms to my first hop.
Vodafone ADSL2+.

Yes, I will log a fault but just putting it out there to see if there any others seeing it, or if it's a known issue.

Sounds like a congested Chorus node.
Where on the Chorus maps are you?

I can't even load the map at the moment!
I'm in Geraldine Crescent, just chuck in a random number.
Not on a cabinet, our area is connected back to the Cloverlea (CVE) exchange.

Cheers,
Nigel

Tried another router.
Speed as well, drops down into the hundreds of Kb/s.

Fault logged yesterday.  The response was please restart your modem and call back if it happens again.
Restarted the modem, fault occurred again last night 19:05 to 21:40:

Just calling in now to let them know.

Cheers,
Nigel

Hi,

I'm sorry to say that a month and a half later things have not improved.
The job has been open with Vodafone since I originally posted here.

Internet was a shocker today.  I presume due to the holiday and the not so great weather keeping people indoors, peak time congestion struck from 2.10pm onwards.  It has continued to be bad each evening from around 5pm till 10pm.
The job number is INC000001581094 if someone from Vodafone would like to take a look for me?

Regards,
Nigel

And it's definitely not you saturating your upstream causing the issue?

Thanks for your reply.

Nah definitely not that.  The congestion issue also appears when there is nobody home for the evening and nothing scheduled to run (I don't run any Torrents or any other sort of services that would max my upstream).

I also graph my WAN interface on a Mikrotik and you can see there is nothing happening currently, yet the connection is in a fairly bad state:

Nigel

Could a Vodafone Geekzoner possibly take a look at this?  It's happening every night and was particularly bad last night.
Heading towards two months since I logged a support call and I'm not receiving particularly great service through the standard channels, as seems to be the recent experience of others on this forum.

My VF username = nbroad

Thanks,
Nigel

The cabling down your street is particularly average - as you know. I wonder if this is some sort of bad as5 crosstalk once people get home in the neighbourhood and start using the connection - long shot yea but you never know. CVE has an ISAM for a long time and backhaul isn't an issue so I don't see that being an issue.

Maybe it's time to build a radio tower on top of your house and bang a wireless link across to the DC on JFK? hahaha

Yeah radio link is a good idea Sam!

I think this Vodafone congestion issue is a bit bigger than my little old street though.

I now have people approaching me at work saying "how's your home internet with Vodafone been lately?"
Lots more people in PN are having exactly the same issue, all in different areas of Palmy, one Pitama Road on a cabinet and another one up Vogel St way on a cabinet.

Vodafone have acknowledged a fault in Palmy and are saying it is resolved... I'm not holding my breath though.

Last night was possibly the worst it has ever been.

1700 - 2300
up to 93% packet loss and 634 ms ping!
