Starting tomorrow 23/01/08, Xnet staff will handle your number porting and save you the long hold times and confusion surrounding the issue.

Actually, the problem has not gone away entirely. For the next couple weeks it is still a matter of Xnet ordering your customer link rather than proper porting, but at least you wont have to deal with it yourself.

You will only be charge the standard 'one off' number porting fee of $17.50 plus GST and that will appear on your WxC invoice.

I know that the first question will be; "what if I've already made the request through Telecom 123?"
We are sorry but if there is already a service order in the Telecom system, you dont want to mess with it. I am told that they should not take long to process.

On the issue of subscribers that have their line rental with another carrier.
Moving that type of customers did not get tested in the original provisioning trials. They are working on getting the systems capable of processing an order to change from 'clothed' service with one provider to 'naked' with another. The first trial will get processed this week and we are shooting for a mid Febuary launch.

The interest in Xnet Fusion has been incredible and the work going into it has been unbelievable. I know that in time, it will all end up smooth and easy but right now our sales and service folks fall asleep at night with visions of order forms and service dates dancing in their heads. As we all know, TCNZ are only officially accepting 50 orders across the industry per day at the moment. So please be patient and we will get you up and running as soon as possible.

Wow - that's good to hear. I have to say the whole process has been confusing and frustrating but that's not from Xnet's side. The service from Xnet has been nothing but superb and helpful!

Thanks for the update.   Good to see the process getting easier to follow for the average user and not requiring knowledge of processes like customer link.

Sounds like things are going well for XNet, just a side question. I'm assuming this will also affect the times of new customers wanting to switch over from another ISP but not to Fusion? Just wanting to know so I know I have a wait til I get switched to XNet =o)

Shoudn't do , the processes for these are pretty good now, it's only with Fusion and some types of Number linking from other carriers which are causing delays, the other services are all pretty much okay

Thats great to hear! It really puts a few troll posts in http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=65&TopicId=17637 to rest.

One thing, maverick - I think the date is wrong:
Starting tomorrow 23/02/08, Xnet staff will handle your number porting and save you the long hold times and confusion surrounding the issue.

Does Xnet also manage to keep our DSL/Phone alive during the switch over from Telecom + DSL to Fusion?  Or do they only just ensure the number gets ported.

Specifically i am referring to the current recommended procedure of geting a temporary line so internet and phone will be up when customer linking.  Will Xnet take care of this for us or just number port and no uptime.

Thats fantastic.  I called the sales team today and they didnt even mention it and I think I got more confused.  I am sure there is a thread somewhere so slap me if you want.....

If I am already a xnet broadband (FS/FS) customer and I want to get rid of my telecom phone line do I asked to be changed to VFX as the current $11.25 is waived or do I go to fusion.  Oh and I also want to keep my exisiting telecom number so need to be ported.

Thanks

Well, given that there is a bit of a wait for Fusion right now (last I heard), and also because you're not in too much of a hurry, I would suggest the following:

1)  Sign up for VFX (the rental is free to Xnet customers as you know).
2)  Go and buy your VoIP hardware if you don't already have it.
3)  Within 2 or 3 days, VFX will be connected, with a WxC number.
4)  Check that your VFX phone is working properly and test all the functions to make sure you're happy with it.
5)  Set up "Call Forward Unreachable" to divert to your cellphone (will be necessary during a brief period when the changeover occurs).
6)  At this point you are ready to switch to Fusion, so sign up and request that your existing landline number be ported as well.
7)  Wait a few more days and it should all happen (during this time, WxC will take care of everything so that your existing landline number is retained).

Doing it this way should minimise any downtime, and also ensure that you can receive incoming phone calls at all times.  There will be a brief period during the changeover when you will need to use your cellphone for outgoing calls.  Other than that, it should be a piece of cake Cool

Sorry about repeating this but will WxC ensure that landline and internet stays up till switch to fusion and number port is done?   The brief change over you talking about is that 6 hour period right?

That's what WxC say, about 6 hours outage.  It's mentioned on this web page at least twice:

Hi

I think you misunderstood me.   I was talking about the 6-10 day outage we would have had if we customer linked our own number and didn't get a temporary number.   Not the outage when change over occurs which is the one that can't be avoided either way.

Does Xnet keep the Telecom line and internet up till the change over day when the 6 hour outage will occur.

If you follow the 7 step sequence I recommended above, there will only be a 6 hour outage as it says on the web page I posted the link to:

5. Current Xnet Broadband and VFX Customer

A customer with both Xnet Broadband and VFX can churn to the new product without charge or contract. Note: there can be an outage of up to 6 hours .

If you follow any other procedure, I couldn't say.
