Anyone got their SIM cards yet? The delivery process seems to take awfully long, which is surprising for a mobile carrier launch.

My order has been marked as shipped this morning, four days early.

 

But wait! There's more!

 

"We estimate 4 business days from the time you receive this email for tracking to activate."

 

I do wish businesses would be honest about shipping. It's not shipped until it's out the door!

What I'm thinking of doing is purchasing the 30-day 32GB plan now, to take advantage of the $4.90 cost, and then switching to the medium 365-day plan at the end of that month. How does what you've noted above affect this? (Would I not be entitled to the discount offered by that 365-day plan?) Thanks for any clarification!

Sorry, I missed that one.

 

Based on what I have been told, you should still be able to sign up for the 365 day discount, provided you do so before before 11:59pm NZDT 28/10/2019. In your case however, both plans are promotional offers, and the terms indicate they can't be used in conjunction with other offers, so you may want to check with Kogan first regarding that specific combination.

 

I know I am being a little pessimistic with my interpretation of the T&C, but I'd rather be cautious than give incorrect information.

Got my email shipped email at 9am this morning, was in my mailbox by lunch... delivered by NZ post in a standard envelope.

Just posting about my experience with Kogan Mobile so far.

 

  • Set up was very easy, though it looks like you will get promotional emails from Kogan Mobile as well as Kogan (The online store), at least until you unsubscribe...
  • By default your credit card is stored and your mobile plan will auto renew. (Same as Skinny Direct used to be).
  • Take care with the APN settings, Kogan seems to have a slightly different config and my Vodafone S8 didn't fully connect to the network until I properly updated the APN.
  • I can confirm the unlimited MMS works fine.
  • I can also confirm that 4G speeds in my area are the same as on Vodafone (See obligatory speed test).
  • Kogan Mobile numbers start with 028, if anyone was wondering :P

In short all seems well so far, lets hope this means better and more vibrant future for NZ mobile plans :)

I appreciate your suggestion, however, I'd be reporting most days now if I could be bothered because so many NZ companies willfully or ignorantly don't give a stuff. I used to call them up and ask where they got the email address from but have found it's a waste of time. They know full well they bought a list, I know full well they bought a list, but they are almost always vague. When I was able to get the info they just claimed they were told the list was kosher blah blah blah. I just couldn't be bothered anymore. Especially not when I have client requests in my inbox to do stuff on their servers, stuff on their emails, etc etc. Stuff which pays my bills.

 

So generally I just have a quick look to see which network it came from and then add to our inhouse RBL which is also shared with our email server owning clients.

 

In the case of Kogan / DSE I also reported it to Return Path, who didn't care until I raised the matter in an ISP industry forum.
