And the late JC wept!

The outrage and nashing of teeth both here and in other media outlets baffles me! It's as if one wake-up in the middle of the night is the end of the world for these people. Lucky they're not volunteer firefighters! There are New Zealander's overseas at the moment who, at the sound of a siren like that, leap out of bed and sprint to concrete bunkers to await the incoming rockets/mortars - and yet all you had to do was press a button on your phone and roll back over. There are yet others, here in NZ who, at the sound of a similar alert, leap out of bed at any hour, deep sleep or not, and madly dash to put themselves iin harms way to save life and property from fire or other such incident - and yet you would think the vocal majority of this country had their first-born killed by this message!

I think @mikeB4 nailed it when he mentioned outrage at being woken to your house on fire.

I think the outrage is about being woken when your house *isn't* on fire. And the carelessness of MCDEM and/or their contractor in allowing that to happen.

The difference here is it was not a system known to even exist here. Did you get woken up at 1:32am & 1:49am by an unknown peircing sound inside your house? That's some freaky sh*t. Not at all like a known sound, eg. a fire alarm, going off.

Yes I did, and no it isn't. I would suggest that you are slightly over-reacting. *woken by phone making noise. Stops noise, reads "test message". Thinks it's an odd hour for a test, goes back to sleep.*

It's not a txt sound mate. It's that tornado warning sound they get in the US, and drives me insane (I avoid all normal alarm sounds too, and cars backing up. I can't handle those sounds, whether you can get that or not really doesn't change my outrage).

I didn't get any alert. Must be because I don't have any kind of cellphone.

I don't believe you, everyone has a cellphone  even homeless people.

I think there has been a serious under-reaction here. This was clearly a terrorist attack on NZ, designed to cause widespread mayhem and destruction by a nation of zombies roaming our roads and workplaces today.

I'm off for a coffee and nana nap now :)

I didn't even hear mine. LG G4, had a weird message on it this morning. It's only after reading this thread that I went back and read it. Obviously it's not the usual message app as it's been pointed out. My tablet got no message and neither did my work iPhone (6S). All Vodafone.

Once the system is commissioned, I'm looking forward to a nation wide test so we can all see and hear how the system works.laughing
