I have a site that I have just put in a Wireless Router from Xtra, have to say it is the 3rd one received as the first one didn't work and the second one was definetly not new so third time lucky. (Have to say this is the second client that this has happened too, not Xtra's fault).
The Router is connected to the only PC in the place, there is 1 other Toshiba Laptop that will connect wirelessly to it not a problem.
The other 3 Laptops in the place will not even see the Wireless network let alone connect, it had the xtra guy bafled as well.
All the Laptops are different from each other, the only common denominator is the Atheros AR5004G Wirless adapter.
Has anyone had any problems with this adapter and what could I possibly do to sort this, I am baffled as well.
Yes the Driver could be an issue and will try that at some point but dosn't seem like that?

Any ideas would apreciated, it just dosn't make sense....

Does it connect if you put the network details into the list rather then relying on a scan to find the network?

How about if you back down to wep or no encryption? Sounds like a fault with the router, either firmware issue or its just broken.

Hi, taking into account that this is the 3rd Router form Xtra and none of the others would get a respnse at all from the other Laptop or PC whereas this one does.
Tried using WEP, which it still is due to varying ages of hardware.
Also before when Xtra where helpful we also tried no encryption with no success.
Unistalled firewalls etc..

It kind of looks like the Atheros ethernet adapter as that is the only common demoniator, but so far have found no success in finding an answer.
Don't forget x2 Toshiba of different kinds and 1 NEC all using that same Ethernet adapter.

The problem is that atheros must be one of the more common adaptors, so if it was a problem with them all, then xtra would surely know about it by now.

Also, chances are that the 3 laptops have differing versions of the driver, so different firmware on the card running.

I would still check for router firmware upgrade, because that has solved a network not showing problem for me in the past on my dlink 900's, and failing that, send it back to xtra,

Hey there,
I like that answer....
The guy I spoke to at Xtra didn't seem to know anything, he said it was maybe a Driver issue, which I thought also at the time but then 3 Laptops later I thought :(  Naaa.....
I can't beleive we would have to send it back another time......
This is not good..
I have to admit I have not come across that version of Ethernet adapter, amazingly enough, no matter that is not the issue.
I will go back to the site and do a firmware upgrade and see if that works, if not I will send it back to Xtra.
What are they doing sending out faulty hardware, I have seen it a fair bit now and definetly not good for business I would have thought.  The repackiging is the worst thing I have come across, looks like a new product until you open it and ???

Anyway will try that in the next few days and come back here and post the result of that.

Many thanks for your help so far and lets hope a firmware upgrade may help.

Spoke to Dlink and she sent me the instructions for that and the link to download the firmware update.
Went back on site and went through it all and all Laptops could access the Router after.
Weird.  Oh well it works now :)
Thaks for help everybody
