Hi As this is my first post I do hope I have picked the correct forum to post to??

My daughter signed up with Trustpower ADSL broadband on the understanding that when the street was upgraded to fibre she would change over to the UFB 100/20 broadband option

The router that was supplied by Trustpower for the ADSL connection did not have the 5gb wifi option so she purchased the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router and i had no problem setting it up for the ADSL operation.

She has now gone onto the UFB 100/20 with Trustpower and would like to continue using the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router. I have attempted to configure this router to suit the UFB network but I have had no success.

I have ticked the following boxes:
NAT - enabled VLAN ID - 10
DNS Servers
Primary – 202.74.33.0 Secondary – 202.74.33.1

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can assist me in the correct procedure in setting up this router for the Trustpower network. Thank you

Trustpower simply use DHCP per this page https://ask.trustpower.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/85/~/configuring-third-party-modems

There should be no need to set DNS as these should be handed out by DHCP.

Thanks for your reply. When I first attempted to connect to the network I did not setup the DNS Servers, I could not access the network, that is why I added the servers as per my original post.

Do you have the D7000 or R7000? Difference is the R7000 is a router only, and the D7000 includes an ADSL modem. If you were using it on ADSL without something in between, it's probably the D7000.

I was wondering that myself.

Both will work with Fibre though. I have a D7000, and am on (bigpipe) Fibre.

I set up my own router on Trustpower UFB, I just set it up as a DHCP client, as sbiddle said.
Let me know if you have any issues.

You are both right its a D7000 model, according to the specs it should work on a Fibre network. I did spend an hour on the phone with the Trustpower help desk tech and we tried all sorts of different configurations but had no success.

The suggestions that i have received is make contact with Netgear New Zealand and see if they can help me - it looks like it could turn into a bit of a problem. I am seriously thinking of doing a factory reset but not yet committed to that idea, as it may all turn to custard.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Too far away for me to help in person. Have you tried restarting the ONT? Every few months I need to restart mine, because for some unknown reason it'll disconnect from the internet.

Good morning - yes i have restarted the ONT on a number of occasions and the ONT displays a green led indicating that we have fibre broadband available.

I intend to do a factory reset this morning, then update the firmware and will then attempt to follow the instructions that i have read on the netgear website. My knowledge of modems etc has been limited to ADSL configurations so fibre is all new to me so any help from you will be appreciated

I haven't done a trustpower ufb , only a trustpower VDSL. In that case though it was the same settings as Vodafone (i.e. no logon or password). Maybe @kiwifruta can confirm?

Basically, on the WAN (internet) port of the router, you need to have 2 things turned on

1) VLAN 10

2) DHCP

Once those are set up, the rest should fall into place

Yes, that's right no login credentials required. Just DHCP client and VLAN10 tagging on the WAN port.

When you changed from DSL to UFB, did you move the cable from the DSL port on the D7000 to the WAN port?

As I said, I have mine working fine on Bigpipe UFB. I followed the guide on their page for another modem, but found the right bits.

The PB tech page (https://www.pbtech.co.nz/NetgearISPSettings) is pretty good. I'd try both the Vodafone and Spark settings (but according to the Trustpower website you don't need a User/Pass so just copy the Vodafone settings).
