I'd like to test this myself - would you mind explaining to me how you set this up? Is it as simple as connecting an ethernet cable from a LAN port on the primary router to the ethernet WAN port on the HG659? Do you need to change any settings on the HG659 for it to work or does it auto-configure?

What I did was connect the HG659 via the ethernet port to a LAN port on a HG630 the HG630 connects to the VDSL

Try as I might, I just can't get this setup working. Here's what I'm trying to do:

When I connect as shown and configure the HG659 to Fibre mode (i.e internet via WAN port), the HG659 tells me it has an internet connection (green light on the WAN status, device web page shows an internet connection), but the laptop can't get online (and ping testing from the HG659 web interface fails). I suspect that there is a DHCP or IP setting that I need to change somewhere.

Spark has bridge mode instructions here, but they are confusing and I believe that what I'm trying to do for this test is not strictly bridge mode? I tried calling the Spark help desk but got nowhere.

Any thoughts on how I can get this working so that the HG659 and any devices connected to it can get internet access? Once I have the 659 accessing the internet I can test VOIP on that device.

I used a HG630b instead of the HG659b but that should not make any difference.

I set the IP andress on the top router to something totally different I used 103.103.103.103 as if you use 192.168.1.x it conflicts with the HG630. the HG630 will change to something like 192.168.3.x

I have a slightly more complex setup than you whereas from LAN 2 port of the HG659 it runs to mynetN900 ( used without WAN / DHCP so just as a switch ) and that connects to a WRT54G wirelessly all seem to work but all devices use static IP but will work with DHCP only using static so I can access all set top network storage devices from the main computer.

My theory on VOIP not working even thou wireshark shows activity may not be sent through the VDSL port has anyone contacted their VOIP provider to test this theory.

Sorry but I'm not exactly clear what you have described. I think you have described giving the lower device a static IP on a completely different network to the upper device, and leaving everything else the same? I'll try that. M

I am trying to set up a session with 2talk to allow them to capture some logs at their end but their support channel is a bit slow.

Give the device connecting to the internet via vdsl another ip address and the HG659 leave as default

FWIW I've tried the same setup with 2Talk on the 659B and get nowhere either, although I'm using the 659B as a WLAN repeater\switch and client to an Asus router.

I've forwarded the 5060 & 6050 ports to the 659B but it hasn't made any difference. Maybe only the WAN ethernet port is enabled for voice?

It's be lovely to be able to replace my antique Cisco ATA unit...

WAN Ethernet only for voice is my theory as well. I just can't quite get enough test cases together to prove it. Apparently Huawei has tested and got it to work with 2talk using the DSL port but I can't for the life of me work it out...

Yes it could very well work with the DSL port for ADSL but it is def not working with VDSL I may one day try it a mums place

FWIW I've also got the current HG659b unit working via Spark UFB. No dice when using via LAN.

Will be interesting to do some quality comparisons between Spark VoIP and 2Talk.

there aren't any ACLs/FW rules on by default that could be blocking the outbound or inbound SIP on those interfaces?

So I just replaced the 659b with a Fritzbox for a test. VOIP worked straight away, no issues.

I expected this, but it does confirm it's definitely a device issue.

I can confirm that VOIP works with ADSL2+ now as well as the Ethernet port so the issue is the VDSL side of thing I now have switched my plan to ADSL2+ ( for other reasons ) so will be unable to do any testing on VDSL
I still believe there is a setting in the Telephone setting ( not accessible by by standard admin account ) just like the IPTV option has the ability to select each DSL port ( ADSL / VDSL )
