I'm not saying it's a bad thing but is it too soon again. Most people seem to think so.

Just because companies like to push the boundaries doesn't mean it's a good thing either.

Personally I'd prefer that they try new things and fail fast rather than the alternative, more traditional Windows approach.

just like Win8 .

MS: we removed the start menu .
the People : please give us the start menu back . Please . Just do that 1 thing & we will love Win8.
MS : you are all stupid, we are smart. We gave you tiles instead . Please use the new tablet interface on your PC .
The people: how do I get into the Win8 Settings etc . This method is the most stupid ever , moving the mouse to the edge of screen to get thing to popup , just doesnt allways work
MS : we are smart, you are stupid. We think fummbling around with the mouse at the edge of the screen to get menus to pop up is a great idea
the people : OK, F you. Im sticking with 7. take your 8 & shove it .

I have always used Open-Shell™. It adds some missing features to Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 - like a classic start menu, start button, a toolbar for Windows Explorer and others.

Brilliant program, never had any problems and you set it up the way you like it..

Update :
MS will probably lower the cpu requirements by 1 generation , to include ALL Ryzen CPU's etc .

"AMD has confirmed that all Ryzen processors support Secure Boot, SVM and fTPM 2.0. This information does not change Microsoft’s official compatibility list. But in theory, 1st generation Ryzen CPUs fit the criteria for Windows 11,"

“... As we release to Windows Insiders and partner with our OEMs, we will test to identify devices running on Intel 7th generation and AMD Zen 1 that may meet our principles. We’re committed to sharing updates with you on the results of our testing over time, as well as sharing additional technical blogs.”

Very fair summation of windows 8. It was a dogs breakfast.

Wonder if Microsoft is still trying for the "every second version of windows is a dud" theme?

I have used my Insider connection and downloaded and installed Win 11 4 times, each time when it boots to start it gets to the Acer logo screen, sits there for a while, then tells me there is a problem, tries again, fails again then reboots into Win 10.

I have checked all my intel drivers, found a very recent update, made no difference apart from putting up an error code  0xC1900101, however I found this information... https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-11/252536/microsoft-may-change-the-windows-11-minimum-system-requirements

I will sit back and wait...

Hi Mike,

I'm pretty sure that I do, there is a check program, 'WhyNotWin11', that says I have, all settings are ok except, 'Processor is not currently supported', the term not currently is the clue, as MS are looking at relaxing the processor criteria for 'Insiders'

'WhyNotWin11' has been updated, my Intel 7th Gen is now included but I am now getting a 'Stop Code' error, the id of which I missed as it did not stay on the screen long enough for me to write it down, all on the 'whynotwin11' is passed as okay, will have another go soon...

Have you updated the BIOS to latest version?

Do you have a laptop - whats the model number? On a sticker
Otherwise what is your motherboard model? - use CPU-Z or similar.

Hyper-V proves that a TPM is virtualisable, so it's likely that a Parallels update will support this (if it doesn't already).

On ARM?

Apparently the latest Parallels beta can run the Arm version of Windows 11 :)

If the Boot Method is currently "Legacy" can it be changed to "UEFI" without breaking everything?

(presuming UEFI is supported)

Likewise...

DiskPartition Type : changing to GPT

Secure Boot : enabling

Stuff will break.

Legacy uses MBR and the boot files on the disk

UEFI uses a config area on a hidden partition to get the details. And expects a different layout. So won't boot straight away without massaging

That said, it seems others have struck it and MS has added a tool to let you

Use at own risk of course.. https://www.maketecheasier.com/convert-legacy-bios-uefi-windows10/
