I would imagine there are or will be third-party apps to do most of that stuff that will work better than the Windows versions. At least that is what past experience teaches us.

I'd like to hear what third party apps would give you... DX12, faster startup, modern device support, modern file system support.

Don't know, don't care. I'm still ignorantly happy with Windows 7. Just on the basis of general principles I'm sure better/faster/more flexible/etc. non-Microsoft solutions for all these things will emerge in due course, as they have in the past.

On a more serious note, one thing that always strikes me about these latest and greatest debates is that there always seems to be an assumption that everyone is a highly skilled power user who cannot function without all these advanced features. Yet most computer users barely know how to turn on their machines. I am a little further along than that, but the way I use computers does not require all these bells and whistles. For my needs Windows 7 works just fine, so why should I aspire to anything else? When it stops working fine for me, I will look further.

So again, just making claims you have no ability to back up in any way? Why are you in this thread?

"most" people barely know how to turn on their PC's? I don't think that's true, BASED ON 20+ years of IT support (See, I backed up my claim with some proof).

A very small number of people that is true for.

I will say this though, MS suggesting that people should edit the registry to avoid the upgrade being forced upon them, is insane. MOST people wouldn't feel comfortable (and therefore shouldn't) editing the registry.

The thread is how to stop 7 offering 10 updates. That implies there are people with 7 who don't want 10. I am one of those. That is why I am in this thread. In fact, I think I have more basis for being here than you do.
