nathan: try PB Tech they have a bunch of the Wacom pens in stock

No luck with PB, Microsoft should work on a pro Wacom pen for creatives, that is basically Wintab compatible Intuos 5 grip pen.

Two buttons, and an eraser with rubber grip - with the tips being the regular wacom size for easy replacement/compatibility. This device has a lot more potential than just sitting in the boardroom.

You could also sell a 'Wacom' screen protector, that recreates the feel of the Wacom Intuos surface while protecting the screen.

Bugger, just went to pre-order a couple of those docks at the 30% off price and they seem to have dissapeared from the Noel Leeming website. All the other accesories still listed there, a bit odd.

The Surface Pro dock is not available till early next year, that's why its not on their website

Anyone keen for a bulk buy with me for sleeve case for the Surface 2? It fits Surface Pro & Pro 2 as well but not as fit as the Surface 2 or Surface RT as per the reviews.

Brown colour has better fake leather than the black one but it's $5 more expensive. If we place 7 orders minimum, $20 shipping fees is waived to NZ. Comes to NZ$32/sleeve + shipping cost then from my house in Hamilton to yours which should not be more than $8 ~ $10

Think my Surface Pro 2 just died for good - not sure how but the charger always seemed to arc when plugging the power cable into the brick, and there sometimes was a feeling of a low amount of current running thru the chassis (kind of like sticking your tongue on a mostly flat 9V battery).

Also the bezel started squeaking by where the fan was extracting hot air which makes me also think the glue started peeling off between the display and chassis.

Regardless, the charger appears to be working (due to white light being on) but the device isn't switching on. Had it charging overnight since I thought it was flat before I went to bed.

UPDATE: speak of the devil, it turns on!

Have it checked anyway because the feeling of current when touching is normal. I suspect the power brick has a fault, not the Surface itself.

I understand that it won't work with the dock for the Pro being released next year.

My current understanding is that plugging in an external hard drive is no big deal, does this count for all hard drive or just the ones which are FAT 32 formatted?

Is there a way to know whether it will work with your printer before you buy it?

Is there a list of the external keyboards or displays it will or won't work with?

Yeah, I know I have given the Surface (RT or 2) a bit of a bashing in the past but the hardware really is good and as a consumer my main priority is knowing what the thing will or won't do before I buy it. I have a funny feeling Bay Trail gear won't live up to the 'full Windows' experience it is promising.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Most peripherals work, certainly more than every other Tablet OS i ever tried

Surface Dock is for Pro/Pro2 only. Power Cover works on Surface 2

drives can be formatted fat, fat32, NTFS probably exFAT as well

keyboards and vga/hdmi displays just work

Surface doesn't currently use Bay Trail. Bay Trail is ATOM, now an awesome processor 11 hours battery life and 1.5x-2z faster than Clover Trail

Surface RT uses Tegra3 ARM
Surface 2 uses Tegra 4 ARM
Surface Pro uses 3rd Gen Intel Core i5
Surface Pro 2 uses 4th Gen Haswel Core i5 Intel

The media is building comparisons of the Asus Transformer T100 vs Surface 2 based on reasonably similar pricing.

If you drill in to the detail a bit it is clear a lot of those pushing the T100 are also carrying a lot of angst against Microsoft, especially RT, and possibly due to this ignoring are some shortcomings. The line is 'it runs full Windows' but performance isn't what you would expect coming from an Core processor.

I don't think either would make a a great primary work computer, I don't think either is intended as such. For me I am willing trade the lack of full Windows apps for better construction, better integration and a better screen on a Surface 2 with a hope the apps get better over time. With the T100 I won't use a lot of traditional Windows apps and I build quality issues really look like more than I can tolerate.

I have a funny feeling Bay Trail gear won't live up to the 'full Windows' experience it is promising.

I have plugged in various USB 3.0 & USB 2.0 external HDD & memory sticks and they all worked. External USB mouse and keyboard worked. Tried a Bluetooth mouse and that worked fine as well.

I have printed to my home Brother HL2130 (networked printer connected to my fritz!box modem) and Konica Minolta's at work (network printers). I used Class drivers for both models (Surface 2 lists Brother, Ricoh, Konica etc) and I picked Class drivers and test page printed out fine along with my print out's of documents including from SkyDrive later on.

All external displays that have an HDMI connection should work fine in theory providing you buy a micro HDMI (Surface 2) to HDMI (monitor) cable.

I am going to pick up a Miracast/WiDi adapter today so might make a video of wireless mirroring and extended desktop and post a link here for everyone to enjoy.

Anyone noticed when connecting to a SSTP VPN that Windows 8.1 is not showing as "Connected" on the Networks list?

Connect to SSTP, slide from right-side open networks and under Connections tap the VPN name - it will show a [Connect] button even if you are already connected.

If you want to disconnect you have actually Open Network Sharing Center | Change Adapter Settings | right-click adapter and select Status - the 'Connect/Disconnect' item in the right-click menu doesn't work either.

do you see this just for SSTP?

If I change my VPN over to SSTP I don't see this same issue, both on Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RT
