reven: I'm thinking about upgrade my main dev box/home server, so wouldnt want to start again.

I'm waiting until RTM before looking at my main machine. Maybe even wait a little longer than that, just in case they stuff up the release. I'm sure they'll have it sorted though.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

reven: I'm thinking about upgrade my main dev box/home server, so wouldnt want to start again.

watching build conference theres some amazing things, considering switching to windows 10 for my phone (depends on a few core apps I need, namely ANZ and sonos)

hopefully you can actually dev publish a universal app to the xbox one without needing a developer license or anything, that would be excellent.

If I was a developer I wouldn't even consider doing this. Fresh install for RTM in case you end up with weird results in your code or testing because of issues with the tech preview. Any work arounds or odd things you need to change in your code would need to be changed again.

Obviously depending on the coding you do.

kiwifidget: When on 99xx versions my laptop (Core2Duo) would almost always crash when coming out of standby. I've leapt straight into 10074 and I can report that that hasn't happened yet.
Also, the WHS2011 connector installed and seems to be working.

Yeah... spoke too soon. Just had a crash coming out of standby.I suppose at least now its intermittent instead of all the time.

Edit : Just had that thing where the start menu wont come up. So that would be consistent with others experience.

timmmay: 99xx on my PC works pretty much perfectly. Waiting until you guys verify 10074 is good before I upgrade. Will definitely be keeping an OS disk image.

Is your machine still working fine? At least some of the older builds are meant to expire about now.

I think it's now time to sacrifice the old ASUS Vivotab and upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.

Yes it's fine. Anyone know about expiry dates? Is current build stable enough?

Upgrade almost complete. It's an ASUS Vivotab 32 bit, so not the fastest tablet in the world.

I wonder if I can upgrade the Surface 3 I got from Microsoft last week...

I got the following in a email today:

  • For those of you on older desktop builds (9841, 9860 and 9879), you should have already received Windows notices that these builds expired on 15 April and that the builds will not boot as of 30 April. If you have not already done so, download the latest ISO File from the Insider download site and perform an upgrade. If your PC will not boot, then you will need to create bootable media and do a clean install of the latest build. One of our Community MVPs has created a nice wiki article with links to the download and also how to create bootable media. And heads up: For 9926, 10041 and 10047 the certificate expires in October.

So if you aren't on a build pre-9926 then I guess you are fine till October.

Still can't drag short cuts from the start menu to the desktop only to the task bar and you can't drag them from there as well..  Installed Classic Shell and that solved the problem.

10074 on the slow ring, on my very ancient Tosh laptop, and it's great.  Not exactly fast (nothing is on that machine), and apps seem to have an initial delay when first called -- which is not repeated second time around.  Sound now works, TV1 and TV3 on demand now excellent on er Edge.  Very slight hiccup on installing -- group policy failed to load on first login, but worked on retry.  I reckon it's almost ready for the Big Time.

I read somewhere that I'll be able to upgrade 8.1 to 10 on my impending Intel Compute Stick--hope so.  Oh, related to this, I'm shortly going to find out why HDMI switches are vastly cheaper on AliExpress than at local suppliers...

Installed and a bit disappointed.

First it didn't keep any of my email accounts (two O3654 accounts - work and Geekzone). Second the Mail app failed creating the accounts - and those are simple O365 ones. The dialog would open and disappear after a few seconds. After a few tries it would get to the point where it asks for email and password, just to disappear again without creating the account.

Then there's OneDrive. Really hard to decide when one is not clear about the difference of "sync" and "not sync" without being told that OneDrive no longer put placeholders to show you have files that aren't there.

And what's that with Cortana still not being available in New Zealand?
