Sorry i meant Windows 8 having the driver issues not the 8.1

Just like the 10 problems now. They are annoying but no different from any new version of OS whether Apple Android or. Windows

markl:
networkn: Big no for me. Worst I have seen MS produce for a long time. I have 6 machines running it, not one of them is completely stable. They are all quite different machines all having different and strangely similar issues (display). Start Menu is erratic, wifi authentication issues, multi monitor issues and incredibly frustrating, happening on 4 from 6 machines, issues with authentication when elevating permission. On my office computer I cannot add my ms account to my domain account because the box to add opens and then closes again no error.
I have issues with Indexing on some machines.

All were upgrades

W8 was pitiful from a UI perspective but stable for me on all my machines. To make it worse privacy is non existent, and transparency is poor.

None of my machines have more than 3 days uptime since I upgraded!

I am very disappointed.

Dont blame Microsoft if you're having driver issues. The hardware vendors are to blame for that. It happens EVERY time. - they have so much notice of new OS releases, and plenty of time to get their drivers sorted, but they STILL can't get it right.

Oh, LOL at your comment about privacy and transparency too. If it wasn't obvious that they OPTIONALLY collect ANONYMOUS (i.e. NOT PRIVATE) DATA for various purposes, then noone would be talking about it because they wouldn't know!!! You should be more worried about the ones that AREN'T being talked about!!!

Mate I've been using Windows since W3 and supporting it marginally less time. If you think all my issues are driver issues, well I am not sure what I can say to you. Sure there are SOME driver issues, but ever wondered why recently vendors are late to the party getting drivers prepped? MS have long had a history of telling their OEM's that they should build drivers to x standard, and then changing it at the last minute (well documented), which caused vendors time and time again to require to re-engineer their software and support. A lot of those companies now only work on drivers seriously once RTM is declared, this is bad for everyone, including MS, the Vendor and the Customer, but you can't really blame the vendors. For your information, it's one of the 2 Major reasons that Vista was such a badly received OS. Vista itself was actually pretty stable, but bad drivers and underpowered hardware in the market because of massive inventory of Intel products that would have been written off otherwise.

As for your privacy comments here is ONE section of the EULA, and by the way, it's all ON BY DEFAULT.

Finally, we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to: 1.comply with applicable law or respond to valid legal process, including from law enforcement or other government agencies; 2.protect our customers, for example to prevent spam or attempts to defraud users of the services, or to help prevent the loss of life or serious injury of anyone; 3.operate and maintain the security of our services, including to prevent or stop an attack on our computer systems or networks; or 4.protect the rights or property of Microsoft, including enforcing the terms governing the use of the services – however, if we receive information indicating that someone is using our services to traffic in stolen intellectual or physical property of Microsoft, we will not inspect a customer’s private content ourselves, but we may refer the matter to law enforcement.

In order to determine if you are in breach of those things, they are going through and analysing your stuff, and if you think it's anonymous, how do they then protect their intellectual property and bring you to justice, if they don't know who you are?!

I am not a Nana, and not usually concerned by the information collected by my apps etc, but this is too far for my liking. This and the general lack of transparency is concerning to me. I know it concerns other IT Support people as well.

I do understand it's my choice to run Windows 10 (Sort of), but unless MS get feedback that people aren't happy with their products, how do you expect them to improve?

Yes from me; 5 machines upgraded in our household, all running very well.

I like Windows 10 especially the new start menu which includes the live tiles.

As strange as it sounds some of my clients are missing the charms! This is mainly those who are using tablets and have learnt to love the swiping in from the sides.

I am of two minds about this. On one hand the interface is excellent, and the OS seems fast. On the other hand there are little quirky issues people are having, some more than others - drivers are one example. Probably these will get ironed out over time.

I think that it's something worth trying. I would probably recommend at this stage, doing a full backup image of your existing PC, then upgrade, and see how it works for you personally.

The microsoft clause regarding protecting their own intellectual property might be concerning for some. But then the OS is free, and the mobile version of word and excel are free. So, unless you are copying microsoft games, or other software, its not nessasarily an issue.

Aesthetics how? It is pretty clean I thought. It is definitely not the jarring experience that was Windows 8.

Cheers, Matt.

I really dislike when the settings are all modern and you click on advanced on a specific setting it takes me to a low res properties menu.

I'd rather have paid and got none of the issues and none of my data being mined to check if I am stealing from them.

The only reservations I have with Windows 10 are....

1. Forced updates in Home version(why I have Pro), it has the potential for mayhem.
2. Edge, it is early days for this and it shows. Its issues are easily mitigated by the use of IE
3. Photo App is a bit buggy.

Windows here on is a perpetual work in progress but is worth migrating to.

Sadly, it's a NO from me. Something went wrong.

The upgrade installed fine, and every thing seemed ok... but....for some unknown reason some websites wouldn't work, just timed out. Thought maybe it was just bad luck and those sites werer having problems. One site in particular (It converts .DOC files to .PDF) just wouldn't load. ( After a reboot of PC and router, it worked fine for a couple of minutes, then again just timed out).
And many Google results pages wouldn't load either.

I soon became familiar as to which sites worked and which wouldn't. A check on other PC's in the house (also Ethernet connected to the main router) worked fine on all sites. Anyway, the Win10 network trouble shooter insisted all was OK.... but it wasn't. I tried a few things like checking DNS was set to automatic, Hosts file was not corrupted, using IE instead of Firefox, different port on router and rebooting PC and router, but all without success and gave up. Strange thing was as I played the problem sometimes resolved, but never for more than a few minutes, or until I closed and reopened the browser.

Additionally there was a small sound issue where a website should have made a small "tick" sound as you moved the mouse over menu items, but instead the "tick" sound was often a louder "buzz" sound. I know WIN10 has some sound problems and I was happy to put up with this peculiarity until MS fixed it.

I re-installed WIN7 from an backup image and everything works well again - all sites load as expected, no sound problems.

So I give up. For now.

But all is not lost. My PC is now registered for WIN10, and I will try installing a fresh new copy of WIN 10 at some point and try again, but for now, I am back on old faithful... WIN7!

I have now upgraded 12 PCs from Win 7 to Win 10.
For the first time I have come across a significant problem.

My wife uses Thunderbird (latest version) with POP3 for her emails.
Thunderbird worked perfectly on Win 7, but "froze" in Win 10. Many emails were "lost".
Recovery / Going back to Windows 7 fixed the problem.

[I use MS Outlook 2010, and have had no problems with my email system at upgrade]

Actually I have an issue connecting with network shares/homegroups between windows 7 and 10. It's intermittent. Not simply permissions like win 8.1, but it simply doesn't work sometimes. There may be some kind of networking issue with win10 atm.

I still like it, but there may be issues and they need resolving IMO. Glad they have a continuing roll out of updates, but they have a lot of work to do.

Of course for windows phone and tablets, we still also need better apps. There are fast pdf/cbr comic book readers for free on android. All the ones I have found on windows are not as fast, and only some of them have a decent, folder based bookshelf.  I am sure if you had more specialized needs, it would be frustrating. I hope that the universal app system, and conversion systems pay off long term, because its a bit sparse in the old windows store.

I am not really sure why 'reader' has no bookshelf system, or cbr compatibility. If it handled pdfs, cbrs and e-book formats, and had a bookshelf, that would make the system more complete.

Same with the video app. It needs a simpler catalogue system. These are basic mobile device functions - media consumption. And while flipboard is great as an app (good to promote), we also need streaming, magazine, comics, and other really decent content consumption apps.
