Yeah, that's how I feel - it's bloated. Always felt like in ran slow back in the day, these days it's well oversized. 

Yeah, a clean install is a must. Upgrade never worked cleanly for any other version of modern Windows, and it doesn't here either - backup and start from scratch, it's way better. 

I have installed win10 on 2 desktops and 2 notebooks .

Mostly very good -- but, on one of the desktops, each time I apply a major patch all of the usb 3.0 drives drop out and I need to reinstall various built in drivers or switch them on and off -- still not sure exactly how I recover them but it takes an hour or two of seemingly random driver tinkering. 

After one particular update, i disabled/enabled the si3124 driver card (sata card) and all of the usb3.0 drives reappeared.

It is baffling, seems to be win10 as it was ok on win7. 

@Mspec had network problems. I had similar ones but I tracked the problem down to BitDefender (which I installed not long after the Win 10 upgrades), plenty on their forums about it, but it is an old prob so not just a Win 10 thing. So bad in fact that I removed BD only 3 months into a 12 month subscription and went back to Norton which as given me no problems although very occasionally I do notice a delay before the network is opened first time in File Explorer. Although BD seems to be leading the way as far as antivirus is concerned (according to all the reviews) I found it did not play nicely with the operating system. It's integration with Outlook was also ropey.

My 2 notebooks are good with Win 10 and I like it, but my workstation (Asus P9X79 WS with Xenon E5-2680) had to go back to Win 7 after a couple of months. It would just blue screen out of nowhere (3 times) where on Win 7 it has been rock solid for 18 months. All were in-place upgrades, perhaps later this year I will do a fresh install of Win 10 on the workstation.

I did notice that some software that was reported as being suitable for Win 10, needed updates to run properly, but once done they are fine.

Even after disabling it I have still lost work when it suddenly rebooted without warning. This issue alone has been enough to keep me from upgrading my other machines. I recently installed a new computer for browsing and email and I made a point of choosing Win 7. Same for my new streaming computer. I can live with the Win 10 Start menu, but I don't really like it.

How did you do the disabling of windows updates.?

We have two new laptops one is an i7, one is an i5 4-8GB of ram, 2Gb graphic cards (own memory) 1TB harddrives.

i7 - set it as a local account,installed updates,  went to change display settings - so we change background images - crashed rundll32.exe not found. Big update / repair process eventually fixed it. Screens dont refresh properly - closing a dialogue box leaves a space where the dialogue box used to be. As slow as a slug on dope. Slow startups, long shutdowns, aweful hangs and pauses.

i5 - wont connect to file shares - but we are also seeing other clients windows 10 machines do the same things this week as some stupid update kills file shares - absolutely wonderful for our commercial clients. SD card drive no lnoger reads a card the second time around. Apps that are uninstalled keep coming back - We have uninstalled amazon, sports, weather, social xbox etc three to five times and they keep coming back. spent 4 hours getting jaked about by MS support (oxymoron that is). 6 days in and still not a proper working laptop.

I sense a reinstall to windows 7 coming on.

I disabled by going into services and stopping the windows update service and setting it to disabled. Hasnt nagged me again since, but not sure if its just because no updates since then or it has worked.

Will see next patch tuesday if I have it decide to not let me defer restarts anymore when its into a massive render or upload of something.

i've had a problem on my desktop pc where the start and search buttons stop working, sometimes along with the volume control pop-up. if a restart doesn't fix it there's a powershell command to run that will.

Since I only use the laptop] notebook on wi-fi, I used the wireless kludge to stop it updating. I didn't (think to) disable the service.

We looked at that and thought about services.

however if you stop updates doesn't MS invalidate you?

and talking about stopping updates. I'll have to do that soon in win7 / 8 as Ms wll make win10 upgrade a recommended updte making it automatic. Surely that must be illegal.

Regret levels are still very high.
Every evening shutting down my laptop it has some spazm and doesnt like it. Maybe failing to install updates.
Might go back to 8.1 honestly.

I’m so mad I can hardly write this. I made a snide remark about Microsoft the other day and was corrected. Now I feel vindicated. They haven’t learned a bloody thing since the days of 98 (not SE), Vista and Windows 8. Win 10 is just another massive fail. I absolutely do not understand how they manage to keep doing this kind of thing and I frankly don’t care anymore. The sooner that miserable company disappears into a bad memory, the better. I just downloaded Linux Mint, and this time I am going to learn how to use it. I have had enough. Even for free, Windows is bad value for money.

So what happened? After much hesitation, I finally allowed Win 10 to perform some major updates. I had been using the wi-fi trick to keep it from auto-updating until now. In spite of that, it still tried to force some updates on me, and it caused me to lose work three times when it rebooted my computer without any warning. I thought maybe it would leave me alone if I just let it have its way.

After my updates completed I immediately noticed two things: first, my language settings had changed and the language toolbar had appeared in the task bar. In itself no biggie, but hardly confidence-inspiring.

Much worse in my opinion was the deletion of an entire folder containing my games and the removal of their shortcuts from my start menu. I have carefully checked and the games are completely gone, not just moved or hidden. This is absolutely unacceptable. It means that Windows, or Microsoft, has nosed through the contents of my drive, picked out some things it didn’t approve of, and deleted them. I wish I could use the word I want to for this, but the Geekzone censor won’t allow me.

Just to be clear, the games folder is a modified version of the one that came with Vista, containing Microsoft Chess and some other Windows games. These were discontinued in Windows 7 and subsequent versions, but the modified version can be downloaded and installed. I happen to like the Windows chess game and I missed it, which is why it was on my computer.

So far these are the only changes I have noticed, apart from unwanted and unrequested downloads (not for the first time) of some apps like Microsoft Money. But of course I don’t yet know what other changes Microsoft may have made to my system, or what other unwelcome surprises I am likely to encounter. This really is the worst kind of arrogant, invasive, prying, crappy behaviour and it is unforgiveable. It really is time for this rotten company to crash and burn.
