bonkas: The machines running Windows 10 have no license key.. I wiped the drives and installed Win10, no license required.. The only identifiable information microsoft could have to differentiate them is my logon and hardware hash of the PC.

Surely I don't have to wipe windows 10, Install 7, wait for the upgrade to become available then upgrade back to Win10.. Although I wouldnt put it past Microsoft to have to do this :)

I wouldnt think so with these machines though.. They are Pre-UEFI era (Core2 and AMD X2) They are also Custom Built and Not Pre-Built brand name systems.

The only machine which this may be the case is my X79 Based system but this is custom built also, I have since removed Win10 and gone back to 7 on this one.

Is there any details out there that goes over this in more details? I had a quick google but didnt come up with much more than what has been said here already.

I really wouldnt be surprised if I had to reinstall 7, you never know.. you may just need to enter your product key and register the machine under your Microsoft ID.. who knows...

Use a tool to check your key, it will either be the supplied product code for the Windows 10 Insider preview (ending YKHCF) which will expire (unless you stay in the insider program indefinitely), or it will be your unique key. You need to use a certain product key finder you'll find on Google.

Yeah I know I can get the key for the current installed OS but I dont think the older machines have the ability to store the product key in the BIOS.

I have the tool to extract this from the BIOS.. will try this and see what pops up.

timmmay: The latest ISO is an iso file, you've said run setup.exe. Does it get mounted as a disk somehow? Would it then upgrade me, or would it be a fresh install? Once it's up to date will that upgrade straight to RTM? I'd rather have a fresh install when it comes out at RTM, it's gotten pretty quirky lately - I can't save files from the internet to my PC reliably, the compute freezes.

If you double click on an ISO it gets mounted as if it was a DVD. You can then run setup. If that upgrade does not work then you will have to wipe and install and it is up to you if it is worth doing now or not. Build 10159 looks nice and must be very close to an RTM build.

This doesn't happen on my PC. It asks what program I want to open it with. Right click doesn't give a mount option either. I guess I'll write it to a USB stick and try from there.

Well I ran setup.exe on the USB stick as administrator and nothing happened, so yep a full reinstall. I have a new SSD, I may install W7 then run W10 upgrade from there, to try to make sure I get the RTM upgrade.

So, what's new in Windows 10 build 10159? Well, as it turns out the major changes included in the new preview is a tweak in the login screen, which now features a centered design with a circular image. Before, the profile picture was aligned to the left with the box to enter the login credentials to the right.

This is why there are two builds this week! They couldn't wait (Their words) to let us see this enhancement.

Hard to believe anyone would consider this feature so essential they would be happy to bear a 2GB+ Download.

Meanwhile, my start menu still doesn't pop up quickly or 100% reliably.

Three builds. looks like you have missed 10162 that came out today...

Oh, and 10159 seems to have had a bug that affected some users (me, for instance) where it kept generating logs till you ran out of disk space on C:. Moderately annoying.

So close to RTM it's concerning this stuff is still present. I'd expect by now polish is what should be added.

I have done a search for updates, doesn't show 10162 available for me. I'll watch my disk space.

Yes I am well aware of that, but the previews are for providing feedback and my feedback is that at this late stage in the game it's a little alarming to me (as someone has run and supported every MS OS that has ever existed), that these BIG bugs are still present in releases.

Right, but the reason they pushed this release of 10159 especially instead of waiting for another, was so that everyone could see this new amazing feature. Don't believe me ?
