timmmay: Having both control panel and settings is crazy. Control panel works well, they should keep it. Providing an interface for common consumer tasks may be helpful.

I installed the latest build as my old install wouldn't upgrade. I'll slowly migrate over to it over the next week. It looks significantly more polished.

I agree. 1 Place for all settings has worked really well for years.

I am to the contrary the settings menu gives an easy access to the main settings most users require and appeals to the consumer user especially. Control panel is messy.

Interestingly, having supported consumers all through the W8 introduction, not a single one commented the same. They all felt it was a considerably worse setup. Each to their own I guess.

That is interesting and why market research is complex, the majority of folks that I have dealt with prefer the new for day to day, many like to have both. The long term IT folk prefer the old and familiar.

Thanks for the fast replies.

Those four issues where a major reason I went back to Windows 7, though after having Windows 7 again for ... 3-4 months I have noticed it is so much slower doing the same tasks than W10 was (or even 8.1) - on the same hardware

nzkiwiman: Maybe I need to take another look at W10 ...
Without reading through many many threads on the Insider Forum, does anyone know if "Pin to Taskbar" works (it didn't the last build I used), if Calc is still a modern app, if Control Panel and Settings are still trying to co-exist and if Search actually finds anything?

Pin - yes.
Calc - modern but works.
Control panel works fine, settings I just ignore.
Search - no idea I don't use it, I use Everything Search to search filenames and if I needed to search contents I'd find the right app.

What's the vibe on the Cortana thing, for use here in NZ?
All the previews I've used so far haven't actually had that feature turned on as such, ie no links to anything in this area.
Keen for someone with increasing difficulty in using mouse/keyboard, for answers like "what's the weather going to be like today?", "Skype this person" and "add to shopping list" etc

Its not available and probably wont be this year. You could change your region settings  etc to the US and use it

Ok thanks for the feedback mike.

Does Google have an app/option for windows 10 that mimics what their iPhone app can do in this regard.  I've found is superior to apples Siri in most cases.

Lots of speculation around that RTM will be this week. 10162 is working very well so here's hoping :)

That would be a bet worth taking

As the Windows Blog mentioned today that Xbox Music is now called Groove, and there is another build coming to WI Fast this week.

Looks like I am just going to have to "get used" to some of things I don't like with Windows 10

Decided last night after downloading the ISO for build 10162, that I would just wait for the full version and install it when ready
So I unhid the GWX icon and told it to do its thing.

If I don't like it, then hopefully I can go back to Win7 and if a in place upgrade doesn't work too well then hopefully I can do a clean install
