MikeB4: I was hoping to see a further build this week possibly the last before release, I guess it is still mid week in Redmond so it may still come

Yeah, still have two more days. I am almost certain there will be a build this week.

Yep, I'm picking tomorrow NZ time! Last time by the time we woke up, the keen ones in the states had been at it for a few hours.

nathan:
Jaxson: I lost sound on an older HP laptop, but got it back by disabling all audio enhancements under the sound properties.
Latest build from a few weeks back lost sound, and the above fix didn't work this time around.
Am hoping for another build soon to restore this again!

report this in Windows Feedback please

Where / How?

Happy to.

Install the Windows Insider Hub application. Applications > add options or something like that. Shows up as Insider there. Must be admin to install and use.

Yep, 166 downloaded and installed in 45 min. Faster than usual for me.

Edge's Favourites Bar sort and presentation are much improved as well! Still prefer how Chrome, IE and FF do it, though. Never mind, is usable now.

Overall, looking good for the 29th.

Is cortana likely to be able to do anything here on launch?
Even local stuff like set reminders, or concert weights / temperature units or currency etc?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Thanks

I'll try the new build after work today and see if anything has changed first.

I finally found some time to sit down and do some usability testing on the new Edge browser.   While I find the browser in 10166 to be quite responsive, I found it quite difficult to use both in changing pre-existing metaphors from using IE (11) and also by approaching it from a non-computer literate users perspective.

The main things that were difficult (I have summarised for brevity)

The grey on grey on grey themes (light and dark) which made it difficult to discern regions on the screen (I seem to remember the same issue and community feedback when Visual Studio introduced these themes).   [visual]

Address bar (hard to see) and bookmarks (non-existing or requires good technical understanding of how browsers work) [cognitive]

No ability to have a favourites bar where one can drag URL links for ease of access [cognitive, workflow]

Difficult to return to previously visited sites - either by reference (bookmark) or by typing in a well known name (address bar visibility)

For us technical people, these might seem trivial, but to non-technical people it can make the computing experience quite difficult and frustrating.

Note: I tried to bullet point the above, but in the quick reply menu (IE 11) clicking bullet point on a paragraph or sentence just inserts a single bullet point at the begging of the post and indents the rest of the post.

Software Engineer
(the practice of real science, engineering and management)
A.I.  (Automation rebranded)
Gender Neutral
(a person who believes in equality and who does not believe in/use stereotypes. Examples such as gender, binary, nonbinary, male/female etc.)

 ...they/their/them...

My laptop is trying to download build 10166 but its stuck at 43%.
I've tried rebooting but it stays stuck on 43.
Does anyone know how to get the download going again or to restart it?

Edit : the download is via Windows Update in "New Control Panel"

I would agree with your points. It is weird they didn't allow drag and drop to fave bar and the ability to rename directly.

I would add another, the inability to have blank names on Favourites a la Chrome and FF. A favicon is often enough and it saves space.

Search/Report to insider hub. Download iso instead. But maybe it is just one large component so the indicator stays while making progress.

There are no official links to ISOs of build 10166 as far as I know.

Links to unofficial ISOs:
