How does the dock connect to the actual tablet? Through the displayport connection, usb 3.0 port etc that are already there? Or some other way such as through the bottom?

Daisy chaining mDP requires 1.2, the Surface Pro uses 1.1a

The Surface Pro 2 uses mDP1.2 so does support daisy chaining

The Surface Dock works with both Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2, the dock uses the connections either side of the Surface Pro / Surface Pro 2, it doesn't use the keyboard cover connector at the bottom

So you can dock ok with the cover still up?

Who is accpeting pre-orders for these? I see Noel Leeming have them but they seem to be delivery only when ordering online.

Oh no, they do allow store pickup you just have to progress a little further in the chekout process.

Oh, are the new type and touch covers also launching on Oct 22nd? Just checking Noel Leemings site they don't specifically mention the release date as they do for the actual surface pro 2

My understanding is that the covers will be available at launch but the things like the dock are delayed until 2014.

JB has the same release date for the Surface 2 Type cover 22/10/2013

pre order can be done in store.

I would image that whomever your retailer of choice is, if they are carrying the surface 2 then they will carry the covers at launch.

Are you able to comment on what the pen is like on the Surface 2 vs the original?

By that I mean how the writing/drawing is?

How flexible is the Type cover 2 compared to the first. I found the type cover to be annoying to use if it wasn't on a desktop as it flexed too much (for a touch typist). Also, are they keys as wide? and finally, is the cover with the additional battery in it?

both the Type Cover 2 and Touch Cover 2 have Carbon Fibre inside them, they are much more rigid and much better at using on your lap that the first models

I've been using them both for a few weeks and can say that I have no problems using them on my lap or chest when laying in bed, which wasn't ideal in the V1 covers

They keys are the same size

Power Cover with the additional battery will be available early next year

Its the same active digitiser and pen combo from Surface Pro

I believe the pen is a Wacom unit. I just recently discovered it has a little button on the side (ok, I am slow on the pickup), but then I only use the pen in OneNote to draw application architecture diagrams and the like - I am what they call 'drawing challenged'.

Sorry I see you mean Surface 2 not Surface Pro 2

Surface 2 doesn't have an active digitiser, the screen is upgraded to full HD 1920x1080 touch, but no active digitiser

Can I use the Surface pen with Surface RT? Surface RT doesn’t support digital pen features. You can use a capacitive pen (sold separately), which works like a finger on a touchscreen, with Surface RT.

It should work with any USB3 Dock.
I'm using Toshiba USB dock with Surface Pro, dock has wireless keyboard and mouse and 2 x 24" screens attached to it. Brilliant device and can't see any reason why to upgrade to Surface Pro 2 as I'm fine with current battery life.

How do you have the monitors connected? does it give you two screens or stretched image a cross two monitors? (you know what I mean?)

The USB displaylink docks give you an additional screen per output

the mDP 1.2 port on the Surface Pro 2 will actually drive 4 separate external monitors
